The fact that the petition to keep James Corden away from the movie has almost 65,000 signatures means that 65,000 have way too much time on their hands.
That said, I want him nowhere near the movie.

It takes 20 seconds to sign a petition and it's a meme at this point. Chill

Waiting for Corden's inevitable self indulgent "bit" were he tries to make a joke out of this. ![]()
On a side note though let's keep in mind that he books a lot of auditions for these roles and this is still pretty huge publicity for the film. :p

Erivo does not look her age and will be covered in green makeup.
And like people have said it moves through time.
Erivo will knock it out of the park and Will quite frankly sing it better than Adele Dazeem.
Ariana has the vocal chops and has acted in a film and tv series.
Her character is not that complex. I’m sure she can pull it off
She’ll have to drop her affectations in her singing but I think she can.
"
To me, Glinda is the most complex character in the musical. She has a big arch and the narrative comes from her perspective. Not to say Grande won't be good, but the character is definitely layered.

I agree with most sentiments here, Grande will definitely nail Popular. for sure. I'm scared for Thanks Goodness the most, the complexity, the storytelling and the vocals, I don't think she'd be able to nail all 3 at the same time.

WOW! OMG OMG OMG! It's finally happening! I cannot believe we have the two leads cast now, which means this movie is finally going to be made! I also cannot believe this thread doesn't have more pages! Maybe people will get more interested when we see trailers and such? Anyway, I love Erivo from seeing her in Bad Times at the El Royale. Screw what anyone says about how hard she is to work with, I just want someone to turn in a great performance, and with her acting nominations I think that will happen. At least the singing will be good. I wish she was a little younger like Grande, because she looks so much older than Grande, but oh well. And I have always loved Grande, so I am very happy and excited for her to play Glinda. The bits I saw of her in Hairspray Live! were...not good to me. At all. But if she got acting lessons, I will keep hoping she can surprise me. And once again, her vocals will be beautiful at least.

I think this one will follow that movies lead, which really worked for me. I was grateful they hired talented singers and not just people who speak the words (Ugh, Russell Crowe)."
Yes, he hired actual singers that were great but the movie tanked hard. I think that is why Hollywood doesn’t hire singers or Broadway talent. They don’t sell tickets. I think they hired two singers and may populate other roles with big names they can auto tune.
"
yes, in the heights wasn’t released in the midst of a global pandemic and was released for streaming simultaneously… that surely couldn’t be the reason why it wasn’t a box office success.

People on Twitter are saying Chloe Bailey is Nessa. I think it's all just fan dreams, but I wouldn't be mad at that casting at all! She's fabulous.

Re: Bailey. Just a hunch, but I’m going to guess that information from the meme account “NOT Film Updates” is um…not an actual update.

I'd be surprised if they don't cast someone who actually uses a wheelchair.

It's a movie, I'd say cut the wheelchair and go back to the novel's concept of her being born armless.

While it would be great to hire an actor who uses a wheelchair to play Nessa, the fact that the character is required to walk without a wheelchair would make it acceptable to hire an actor capable of walking. I’m more interested in whether or not they’ll hire a little person to play Boq.

if they were to cast a disabled performer as Nessarose for the movie, they could use a body double for the scene where she’s walking. Plus, I’m sure the VFX artists would be able to blend the disabled actress in seamlessly with the body double.

I agree that the movie provides the chance to use a disabled actor as Nessa that the stage show wouldn't be able to do and it would be nice to see that in the role.

Oh, Dear is right... Just what every disabled person wants, to be in a movie that erases their disability to be perceived that they are "better" or "normal".

The book was so dark, though. I can't imagine they are going to want to make the movie that dark...that may not work with a mass audience.

I wanted to post why I have some confidence in Ariana Grande as Glinda. Her acting isn't atrocious (though I may have thought it was back when she did Hairspray Live!), but she has done some great impressions of singers and actresses! Her singing impressions are incredibly astounding! She can even do Whitney! Check it out:

Her impression of Judy Garland is good, but wait till you hear her Jennifer Lawrence and Jennifer Coolidge!:
Ariana Grande Celebrity Impressions
"God, you look like the Fourth of July!" LOL!!! So, I think she could do her own great-sounding Glinda, and if her acting lessons help her, maybe she could be even better than I ever hoped, maybe cry, or get us to!

The more likely rumor I've heard is that, with regard to casting Fiyero, they are looking to split the difference between Cynthia's and Ariana's respective ages and cast someone "in the middle," capable of being a realistic object of desire for either of them. More to the point, they're trying to get a certain former boy bander with considerable solo success who caught some flak from Billy Porter recently and is being (or has been) sought for other movie musical roles. He has yet to commit to the other film musical roles for which he was being seriously considered, so I don't know if he'll bite on Wicked, but his name is at the top of their list last I heard.
