I had the same thought. Also the video suggests that they’re playing up the notion that, as a munchkin, Boq is very short. That seems like an odd thing to play up given the munchkins in this movie are normal sized.
^No, he doesn’t. The movie doesn’t seem worried about giving away spoilers for the plot at all. I guess they figure that the majority of the primary audience has already seen WICKED on stage. Even the track listing for the opening number gives away a pretty major spoiler by listing Jeff Goldblum’s name. I feel like the Broadway production did a really good job at keeping all of the twists a secret. But hey, maybe this means we’ll finally get a recorded version of “The Wicked Witch of the East,” if that number hasn’t been cut.
After 2 decades of waiting, I finally saw WICKED PART 1 last night! It was a beautiful film! If you're a fan of the stage musical, then this movie is for you! I just need part 2 ASAP!
I also saw Wicked this week, and I agree with degrassifan - the film is a terrific adaptation. John Chu and the creators more than did justice to the musical. I’m a respectful fan of the stage version, but I found the movie exhilarating, the casting perfect, and production design absolutely stunning. And they were right to divide the show into two parts. It lets the story move at a rich pace and allowed the creators to include more from the book. Chu was at the screening, and the audience gave the film a standing ovation. I think this has all the elements of a great classic musical film.
Check out the a large snippet of Dancing Through Life, played at the Los Angeles premiere. I am so intrigued by the new orchestrations. I'm grateful it's not a 1:1 adaptation, as the original soundtrack will always exist. And there's clear extensions in the song. If I want the original soundtrack, I'll just put it on and listen. Curious to see what Schwartz has in store for the rest of his compositions:

Just went to play some music on YouTube Music and Wicked: The Soundtrack (Instrumentals) popped up in Ne Releases. It is 5 tracks of instrumental "clips" from the songs Popular, The Wizard and I, Dancing Through Life, What is This Feeling and Defying Gravity.

As has already been stated everywhere on the internet, the original songs are in Part Two. Stephen Schwartz confirmed this in December 2023.
Act one is overwhelmingly packed (and therefore performed at a breakneck pace) so they have expanded scenes and songs have new orchestrations with some being extended.
Unrelated to the movie, but does anyone (perhaps with a marketing background) know why they revised the Broadway logo at some point? It was original flat colors and solid white letters (like on the cast album cover), and at some point they added shading and gradient to the whole thing and an outline to the title, giving it a much more 80s British import look. Obviously not a big deal, but I think they nailed it the first time and then made it look cheaper and outdated, and I've always wondered why.
Just wondering if any of the advance screenings had been in 3D. I've got tickets for both versions but just curious if there have been any comments about the 3D version.

If my memory serves me correctly, this happened when the production opened in London, so you'd be dead on. I absolutely hate what they did. The original poster was graphic, iconic, and absolutely perfect. Why they would ever change it to that cheesy, tacky version and keep it is totally beyond me.
