Hey Anthony! (And everyone else of course)
I haven't posted in this thread in a while, but I had a really touching experience regarding Rent a few hours ago and wanted to share it...I have a 9 year brother who is pretty severely developmentally delayed due to a reaction in his brain to the mercury they put in a vaccine when he was 18 months old. He is severely language delayed and has the linguistic ability of about a 3 year old. He is also very shy and has some self esteem issues. Anyway, I was on the phone with my mother and she said my brother was asking to talk to me. Now, my brother has never spoken more than 10 words together in a cohesive sentence, but he got on the phone and told me he wanted to sing a song. He then proceeded to sing "What You Own" all the way through, rather well. I was in tears because it made me so happy and started saying good job and wow and he said "Not Done Yet!". He then sang "Today 4U", singing everyone's lines and instead of 'Evita' said "the vita". I was so happy and wanted him to sing more but he was done on the phone. I asked my mom if she had bought another copy of Rent because I brought mine with me to school, and she (also in tears) told me no, he hadn't heard the cd since this summer when I was home, but she thought she had heard him singing those songs when he didn't think anyone was listening.
Anyway, I really want to say thank you, as corny as it, for bringing not only music, but words into this kid's life. I had no idea that recording had meant that much to him, but obviously it had. I know this isn't the usual way Rent touches someone, but it meant so much to me and to him. Thank you and good luck with filming!
