I agree (with funnywatson), the new setting takes a bit out of it, in my opinion. Esp. in the Life Cafe, I mean why use a replica when you could use the real thing...?
"Kali, why is Roger on a cliff?"
"Because the cliff is love, Rachel."
"Oh."
That's true, but it's not just that, its the idea of changing the place where it films, and "the city is another character in the story" I dunno, maybe I will feel differently when it comes out? ... Actually...it's more that I really would like to see them filming when I go there than anything else...

I'm writing this from San Diego, where I'm finishing up my run in Little Shop before heading back up to San Fran for more Rent rehearsals.
On my fifth day of rehearsal, I sang through all of my stuff with Adam and the gang so our music supervisor could get it on tape for the record producer to hear. (the record producer, by the way, is Rob Cavallo, who has produced all of Green Day's stuff. This makes me very happy, because their records sound *great.* And yes, there will be a newly released recording.) Then Tracie and I leanred some more Tango choreography. It's feeling good, and hopefully it looks good too.
About the notion of filming in San Fran: it doesn't matter *where* interiors are filmed. Believe me, you might be shocked to learn where some films were made. We will shoot all necessary scenes in NYC. Trust me on this.
Oh, and this might go without saying: anyone who comes to see me in Little Shop or any show, please say hello afterwards. It's always nice to put a face to a name.
I still have to disagree that the movie MUST be filmed in NYC. The argument is working under the assumption that the movie would be filmed on location, should it be filmed in NYC, which would have likely not been the case. It's very expensive to film on location, especially in NYC, and particularly for a film of this nature (with the lip-syncing, the choreography, the style, etc.), time and budget constraints would make filming on location prohibitive, not to mention each day would have to be rushed to meet these limitations and we wouldn't get he perfection we expect. There's really no difference whether the interiors of the film are shot on a sound stage on Treasure Island or a sound stage in Queens. Either way, it's going to look and feel the same.
Now, if the major exteriors were to be filmed in SF, and if I see the Golden Gate Bridge in the background, that would be a different story. But I think we should relax about having the interiors shot at an SF studio. It's all going to look the same.
Just my $0.02. (Canadian currency, so it's not worth too much. )

Thanks for another update (yes, I will thank after every one!)!
Everything sounds smooth, which is loverly.
And I completely agree/know that it doesn't matter where the heck interiors are filmed. Two summers ago I shot exteriors in the hall of my highschool, where the film was taking place, and edited it to smoothly cut with someone entering an "office". The thing was that the exterior hallway was really in the highschool, while the "office" was part of a dorm room on university campus made up to look like a principal's office.
Many, many, many films are filmed in places you'd never ever guess. Ever.
Too bad I won't be able to go see LSoH this weekend, it's all about location and I'm on the east coast and unless my parents have this incredible surprise up their sleeves and will let me miss a hockey game or two (it's not like I'd necessarily play anyway, or technically be necessary whether coach'd play me or not)...
Ah well, looked like I was gonna go for about four days.
C'est la vie. You can't do everything you want to all at once, somethings work out, somethings don't. This didn't. Too bad. Gotta keep going...
I am kindasorta thinking of putting a small pic of me as my avatar or something-- can anyone pm me and tell me how to shrink down jpg's to do this? (I'm pretty computer illiterate, comparitively).
Thanks again for the update! Have fun with the last shows of LSoH and with rehearsals!
Good luck, Anthony and co. And I entirely agree about interiors- you absolutely can not tell a difference. Watch Alias sometime- in three seasons I believe they've shot on location once, but you would NEVER guess that it really isn't in Tapei, Madagascar, Spain, ect. Trust the set dressers, folks.
Anthony, how would you compare the sound of the cast this time around to the OBC? You've got two new members and your voices have all probably matured over eight years and you've got new recording people and musicians.
..or welcome to me, as you've been posting and I haven't. I enjoyed your performance of Nocturne at St. Mary's Hall in 2001-2002 (?) My books made up some of your props/set pieces, as the set was assembled by my obnoxious brother-in-law. I did not stick around afterward to congratulate you then, so congratulations on a deeply moving (if awful and creepy) piece. I have a close friend who got to know you in Austin in 1992 or so. And I believe you gave a master class at my school when you were in town, the year before I started teaching there.
I guess I have to have a question now, because it's really obnoxious to name-drop you to you.
Well, I had a frustrating day teaching. I find it a constant challenge to instill not only good vocal technique, but good work ethic and attitude as well. My good, reliable kids too often may have the fire in the belly, but it's like pulling teeth to get that out there. And regrettably, too often, some with real spark are also giant pains in my ass. The depressing thing I observe is that in the world of performers or celebrities or whatever, the same rotten attitudes and head cases seem to have prevailed. What I'd love to hear is some kind of denial of that, some kind of affirmation I can pass along to my kids that in the actual real world of musical theater, you will not last long if you are a whiny pain in the ass. Then I might have some real grounds, you know? Maybe I'm just having a bitter day....
Oh, and the movie you were in with Brendan Fraser was on TV the other day, and you were very (appropriately) evil. Jew him down, indeed.
"Knock knock"
"Who's there?"
"Control freak--now you say 'control freak who?'"
Like everybody else I agree that it truly doesn't matter where the interiors are shot.
Anthony good luck with everything(especially last few days of LSOH).
And very sorry stacey that seeing LSOH didn't work out for you.

EDIT - first, i must say, I LOVE GREENDAY. i would have gone to their concert, but my parents were being ****** and wouldn't drive me. so the recording should be good.
i'm really anxious to see tango: maureen, and light my candle. and take me or leave me. a year is a LOONG time...
anthony, good luck on the rest of little shop! and thank you, again, for posting. it's so great to be updated on this.

A year is a long time, but we'll just have to wait and see. I'm also very excited about Tango: Maureen. Hell I'm excited for it all.

I was wondering if you ever miss your Hedwig high heels and have you ever been compelled to wear them while Tango-ing Maureen so that you can "try it in heels"?
As always, excellent to hear an update. I can't wait for the cast recording! And I wholeheartedly agree that a year is far too long to wait to see Tango: Maureen, among other things.
A good friend of mine is going to see Little Shop tomorrow...put her out of her misery, it's all she's talked about for weeks! Although I'm sure I was just as bad until it was my turn. Break a leg!

Wow talk about a hectic schedule.. Good luck with everything! :) About filming on location- like I said (or meant to say) earlier it's more out of my own selfishness and how much I want to see the cast than out of actual concern out of how it will look. I'm sure it will turn out fantastic. I'm sooo excited for the new cast recording- you can never have enough RENT CDs!
"Kali, why is Roger on a cliff?"
"Because the cliff is love, Rachel."
"Oh."
I've never thought it was a big deal where the sound stage was, its all the same. thoguh if they do shoot on loncation, and the info is released to the general public, I'll try and get there some how
lol the "try it in heels" thing reminded me of a play we did freshman year... It's student written and the Tango Maureen was in it... but it was two guys... so we had to figure out how one of them would be in high heels... it was a good time.
I'm new at this posting thing so bear with me... I just have to say that being 18 and just now realizing that theatre is what I want to do for the rest of my life, I feel as if I have a lot of catching up to do, (reading as many plays as I can, listening to musical cast recordings...). I just wanted to say that I recently bought the You're a Good Man Charlie Brown cd, and it was the most adorable thing I've heard in my life, and it has now been in my cd player for about two weeks. Just wanted to tell you, thank you for the inspiration! Also, do you have any advice for new comers like me? I'm actually from San Diego but am gone at college, I wish I could be there to see Litte Shop. Anyway, break a leg!
Are you studying theatre where you go to school?(probably a stupid question, but still)

yep, it's my major. I kind of got a late start though. Last year was my senior year of high school, and we did Man of La Mancha. I was just in the chorus, but what I felt inside was something I can't put into words. It just felt right you know? Anyway, do you have a story? feel free to pm, (I think that's the right lingo) me if you want.
A friend of mine who does Acting/Opera in NY got me into acting. I don't want to get yelled at so I'll pm you.
