Excluding Hamilton- which show do you think made the best use of the platform?
I think She Loves Me gave the unsure viewer a good idea of what to expect- cute, colorful, suitable for all. I'd probably buy tickets to that followed by TCP only based on the performances.
Fiddler needed to sing more.

Bright Star was one of my favorites of the night. Carmen was stunning.

Color Purple.

Shuffle Along and The Color Purple. Shuffle Along's choreography is fabulous beyond words, and The Color Purple made me a weepy mess, especially after what happened in Orlando.
In order
1)waitress
2)color purple
3)shuffle along
4)bright star
5)she loves me
6)school of rock
7)spring awakening on your feet
9)fiddler on the roof
I thought the performances were great this year. The only one that felt out of place was Shuffle Along, it just didn't work for me outside of the theatre. Glad the producers made good use of the opportunity!
Color Purple, Bright Star
But at least nothing was horrible. IMO
Waitress, Color Purple, Shuffle Along all seemed like ticket selling performances to me.
Fiddler needed more singing, it was just not a strong performance at all. I know that She Loves Me wanted to showcase its nominees but I found the performance to be awkward and disjointed.
The Color Purple, Shuffle Along & School of Rock
My #1 was Waitress for sure - brought tears to my eyes. Color Purple a close second. I really want to see Bright Star (I have tickets for later this month) but I wasn't super impressed with the song selection. I hope it is still playing for when I get there.
Color Purple.
And the best speech of the evening was unequivocally Frank Langella's.
Cynthia Erivo, Cynthia Erivo, and Cynthia Erivo. Seriously, where did she come from and what did we do to be so lucky to get her?
Also, I loved that they incorporated Danielle and Heather into "Mysterious Ways".
So glad I went to see the Color Purple on an impulse in January.

I agree! Cynthia's performance may have been the best in Tony history. I know that's a loaded statement, but I really think it's true.
I was hoping for a Hamilton medley actually. I felt Hamilton's 4 minutes excluded Leslie, Renee, and Daveed (who all ended up winning a Tony.)
of course any medley would feel disjointed but they could have made it work.
The Color Purple's number will likely sell some tickets. I think the Waitress presentation was effective, too. Carmen sounded great in the Bright Star number, but I don't see that song causing a stampede to the box office.
Medleys never work, and She Loves Me was no exception. The Fiddler number didn't come across well, either. There was a lot of dancing, which is fine, but the camera angles they chose were awful- it didn't showcase the dancers well at all.

The Color Purple and Shuffle Along were most impressive along with Hamilton IMO. Waitress and She Loves Me were good too. I was meh about On Your Feet and School of Rock and not impressed by Bright Star and especially Fiddler

I agree that the SLM medley wasn't the best thing ever but I think it was a good snippet of what to expect. I can see it getting more tickets sold especially when combined with Meg Ryan explaining "hey, this is my movie with music"
As per usual with the Tonys, the camerawork was dreadful for all of the performances. Fiddler, Hamilton, and Spring Awakening in particular seemed more disjointed than they probably were on stage.
Medleys. Don't. Work. And the camera work sucked. I would say, Color Purple came off best but THAT would have been more effective if it were simply Cynthia doing her whole song.
Fiddler was the exception to the medleys-aren't-better rule with that truly unfortunate selection. I loved the production but would not be surprised to see a closing notice in the next couple months.

I saw She Loves me and liked it...The performance tonight would have made me not want to see it at all. Jane Krakowski barely opened her mouth!
The Color Purple was absolutely phenomenal and used the 4 mins so well, and didn't make a medley seem awkward and all over the place at all.
Bright Star was also really nice, especially after just seeing it last night.
Fiddler was definitely a shocking song choice, but very well done.

The Color Purple, Shuffle Along, Bright Star (just love Carmen and she sounded great!), Waitress, Fiddler on the Roof, She Loves Me (medley didn't do it justice, no one could really sink their teeth into any of their songs), School of Rock, Spring Awakening, On Your Feet (nothing special…and what's with that guy who plays Emilio…is he supposed to be good?).

Yes. Really disappointed we didn't see Leslie. Certainly he appeared in the opening, but it really wasn't part of the "Hamilton" performance.
