Obviously the hype worked against them with voters.

Illinois just brought tears to my eyes. I wish I would have seen it when it was in Chicago!

This is making me recall how it felt like the WGA strike was the best thing to happen for the Tonys. The pacing of last years show was perfection, and we didn’t have the banter.

Illinoise has the best performance of the night so far. By far
Illinoise-for me, the best musical of the night thus far. I’d buy a ticket.
Oh my god! That performance of Illinoise!!! I’m crying all over again!
it’s so brave of them to feature two men passionately kissing and dancing front and center in a Tony performance.
now I’m bitter all over again for Ricky Ubeda and Ben Cook snubs!
Welp…gotta go see Illinoise again. Loved that performance. Sometimes you don’t need lyrics to tell a story and convey incredible emotion. Loved it.
Shocked that Illinoise performed that instead of something like “Chicago,” but this was my favorite moment in the entire show. This feels akin to when Once performed “Gold” instead of “Falling Slowly.” Anyway, I thought that was so affecting.
Illinoise has just sold a ticket, that performance was STUNNING!!!

Someone call NPH stat! I would even take James Corden at this point.

Into the Woods, Falsettos, Ragtime, Parade, Urinetown, and The Drowsy Chaperone would like to have a word with you...
So far Illinoise is the only Best Musical performance that has landed for me. I’m rooting for it to somehow win.
