OK, this is fun. To go along with all the other mascots in TImes Square, Laura Benanti dresses up as Fosca and seeks out people who want to have their picture taken with her.
Love this and I love her! she's hilarious!! The fact that none of those people in the TKTS line knew Stephen Sondheim was actually kind of disgraceful lol And Passion is one of my favorites, though lesser known so I could see how most people didn't know the show. However I wish she was singing a song from that show to me! She sounds amazing on those songs. I want her for the role in a future performance!
God, I adore this woman. She's marvelous in dramatic roles and yet she has this wonderfully wicked kind of wacky sense of humor. I still so fondly remember her wonderful performance as Ann in A Little Night Music at LA Opera. I'd love to see her put those comedic chops back to work on Broadway. Can anyone think of a dream role for her that would tap into her comedic sensibilities? Perhaps it hasn't been written yet...
As for the video. HI-LARIOUS. Love the opening theme rap as well. Quick question, did anyone else notice the Broadway.com "Show People" theme music playing while she's shopping for a shawl? Is this some well known song? I always assumed it was music that Broadway.com commissioned. Kind of funny to hear it in a Playbill video. Also, if you haven't seen it yet, Laura's appearance at Don't Quit Your Night Job at 54 Below is very funny as well. Link below.
Wow she is really campaigning to play Fosca... Clearly her dream role.
I think she'd make a great Baker's Wife - that would be a role that would involve both pathos and humor for her... Plus, I think she has the presence and stature on stage to give the role the power it needs... She could rival Joanna Gleason's performance.
She told the story on Side by Side by Susan Blackwell (I think) that she used to dress up as Fosca for Halloween and trick or treat while singing Passion.
Seriously though, I'm not sure she would make a good Fosca

Sent this to my hubby to cheer him up. She is very funny, and whoever suggested she and Blackwell is right...they are very good together.
