"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."
--Aristotle
I waste way too much time on here...it's hard trying to get the order exactly right...

"If there was a Mount Rushmore for Broadway scores, "West Side Story" would be front and center. It snaps, it crackles it pops! It surges with a roar, its energy and sheer life undiminished by the years" - NYPost reviewer Elisabeth Vincentelli

I think my very first was something called THE BLACK CROOK... Some of you may also be old enough to remember it?
In order? You have to be kidding. Let's see. I remember seeing COMPANY (the initial production), PIPPIN, VIA GALACTICA, ROCKABYE HAMLET, HER FIRST ROMAN, HELLO DOLLY, CHORUS LINE, and DUDE, but I couldnt for the life of me tell you the order in which I saw them. FOLLIES in LA, which was basically the NY cast and crew moved intact. THE WIZ. NIGHT MUSIC... heck, the entire Sondheim canon, for that matter. APPLAUSE. COCO. SEESAW. MAME. DEAR WORLD. Some straight plays as well: a little known Guare piece called MONKEYS HOWLING AT THE MOON (I think, I could be wrong on that one). SEASCAPE. Arthur Miller's CREATION. Another whose title escapes me, but starring Katherine Hepburn -- at the end of the first act, her maid was floating in the air.
It's hard to believe that I saw some of this stuff almost 40 years ago. Gads.
Oooh, I want to see if I can do this (just musicals):
1. The Full Monty 2. Aida 3. The Producers 4. Rent 5. 42nd Street 6. Les Miserables 7. Urinetown 8. Hairspray 9. Thoroughly Modern Millie 10. Avenue Q 11. Caroline or Change 12. Wicked 13. Assassins 14. Movin' Out 15. The Boy From Oz 16. Wonderful Town 17. Fiddler on the Roof 18. Bombay Dreams 19. The Frogs 20. Brooklyn 21. Dracula 22. La Cage Aux Folles 23. Pacific Overtures 24. Little Women 25. Good Vibrations
1996 1. Victor/Victoria (first show in NYC was Mrs. Klein with Uta Hagan) 2. Sunset Boulevard 3. Les Miserables
1997 4. Chicago 5. Phantom of the Opera 6. The King & I 7. Master Class 8. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum 9. Bring in Da Noise Bring in Da Funk 10. Rent (also saw I Love You, You're Perfect... and When Pigs Fly)

Can't possibly remember the 1st 25 but certainly the 1st three as that was the beginning of my obssession with the theater:
How to Succeed (Robert Morse) Stop the World I Want to Get Off (Anthony Newley) Oliver and the next few,not in order: Funny Girl (Streisand) Roar of the Greasepaint The Apple Tree (Barbara Harris) Helly, Dolly Mame (the incomparable Angela Lansbury) Kelly Dr. Jazz (Bobby Van, Lola Falana) Holly Golightly (yes, the 1st and last performance) Sherry
Unfortunately, I'm only on number 20. But here's what it is so far. I will update this as soon as possible:
Beauty and the Beast The Lion King Cats Les Miserables Annie Get Your Gun Aida The Music Man The Producers 42nd Street Into the Woods Caroline or Change Wicked Rent Chicago Monty Python's Spamalot Chitty Chitty Bang Bang The Light in the Piazza Dirty Rotten Scoundrels The Color Purple Jersey Boys The Wedding Singer
And just for the record, Hairspray isn't on this list because I saw it when it came to Boston.
