So today I watched It's A Wonderful Life for what I believe was the first time ever (crazy, I know!). At the end, I was almost physically overpowered with emotion. It's a truly remarkable film that absolutely puts you in the Christmas spirit. I was wondering what your guys' favorite holiday movies are, and why you love them so much.
Happy Holidays.

Happy Holidays."
My favorite holiday movie is and will always by "Miracle on 34th Street". And the reason is really very simple: NATALIE WOOD.
"Scrooge," the musical movie starring Albert Finney. I saw it on Christmas Eve with my dad when it opened, not long after I turned eight years old. It was just the two of us. Mom stayed home with my brother who was six at the time.
I will never forget sharing that experience with my dad. We both loved the music and Finney as "Scrooge." Over the years it stayed with me, and no other version of that story compares for me, including the Alastaire Sim version (supposedly best, but devoid of the depth of emotion for me).
The songs "You," "Happiness," "On a Beautiful Day," and "I Like Life" are part of my DNA now, as is the opening choral number "A Christmas Carol," which I arranged in six-part harmony for our high school choir to sing when the sheet music wasn't (yet) available.
I sometimes watch it in June or September or whenever I feel like it. It reminds me of my dad, and of that first experience with those beautiful sets, costumes, performances (Alec Guiness's Marley is brilliant), but most of all ... the music.
A Christmas Carol (1933)
The Family Stone
Little Women (1994)
A Dog Named Christmas
A Charlie Brown Christmas
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Christmas In Connecticuit
I love some really sh*tty Christmas movies...my favorite being A DIVA'S CHRISTMAS CAROL with Ms. Vanessa Williams as pop star/miser Ebony! I also have a deep and abiding love for A VERY BRADY CHRISTMAS.
In terms of actually good movies? MIRACLE ON 34TH STREET. It's being show at Chelsea Bow Tie next Wednesday, if anyone is interested! I'll be there.
Oh, and Fantod, if you haven't yet, watch the the Judy Garland Christmas Special that's on Youtube. It even has the original commercials and it's wonderful and batty and perfect.
I will never stop loving The Muppet Christmaa Carol.

" Love it! Little Nat pretty much invented side shade in this movie!
Also Nightmare Before Christmas and Bad Santa
It's a Wonderful Life
The Shop Around the Corner
The Bishop's Wife
I usually pull out The Lion in Winter at this time of year, too. Kate Hepburn as Eleanor of Aquitaine is the greatest gift of all.
There's nothing explicitly Christmassy about Victor/Victoria, but I love the snowy Paris the film depicts.
On the more corny side, I've watched Mickey's Magical Christmas: Snowed in at the House of Mouse every year since I was kid. I also love A Very Brady Christmas. And the terrible Kathy Ireland "Once Upon a Christmas" movies! It's just not Christmas without an appearance by Rudolpha!

Gremlins
Rare Exports
Black Christmas
Silent Night, Deadly Night
A Christmas Horror Story
I know I like bestie and robbie alot, so I have to admit to only needing to see two Christmas movies a year.
"Scrooge", the most delightful film of "A Christmas Carol", imo. Gorgeous score by Leslie Bricusse. I don't know why "Happiness" isn't more of a cabaret staple.
"A Very Brady Christmas"!! Cheezy goodness! I can quote the entire film, and it never disappoints. The cut scene of a young Carol Brady singing "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" to her older self singing it an octave lower...each "kid's" reveal preceded by them standing at the dinner table and saying "I think you're talking about me, dad!" Everything out of Alice's mouth...too much!
Taz I <3 your list.
We should have a Christmas movie marathon.
Erik, you must check out A Christmas Horror Story.
It's new and it is an absolute blast!
Really fun time, and the ending is perfect.....but I'll say no more.
Oh, and William Shatner is perfection.
For those who want a little mischief in their holiday playlist it's the perfect antidote for too many cheesy films.
A Christmas Carol (1951)
The Gospel According to St. Matthew
The Apartment
Falling in Love (most people hate this movie but I love it)
The Lion in Winter
Meet Me in St. Louis
It's a Wonderful Life
The Shop Around the Corner
A Midnight Clear
In Bruges
Miracle of Morgan's Creek
The Shop Around the Corner
The Nightmare Before Christmas
A second for Musical Scrooge
"The Ref"
Finney remains my favorite Scrooge, and the score is a keeper.
I'd add "Prancer," a charming film with wonderful performances by Cloris Leachman and especially Sam Elliott as a tortured father. The little star, Rebecca Harrell, was just extraordinary.
Christmas in Connecticut
Miracle on 34th Street
A Christmas Carol (1951)
Scrooge
A Christmas Carol (animated, 1971)
A Christmas Story
Elf
I just watched The Lion in Winter last night--one of my all-time favorites, though not exactly a Christmas movie.
I remember seeing Scrooge at Radio City with the Christmas show
How is that for a great doubleheader?
