I'm also frustrated Claybourne Elder missed out on a Featured Actor nom. Sidney DuPont and A.J. Shively above him? Really? Who did the producers of Paradise Square pay to make that happen?
Man, I am really disappointed that Katrina missed out on a nomination. Her performance is one for the ages and genuinely one of the best I've ever seen on stage. The fact that she couldn't even got a nomination is mind boggling to me.
Not as mind boggling as Paradise Square getting 10 nominations (including two Featured Actor nominations... what?) but mind boggling. I guess it has another month to run before it wins no Tony's.
Happy for Jennifer Simard, though! I wish Claybourne Elder and Christopher Fitzgerald were nominated.
I didn't love Funny Girl, but I'm surprised it was almost entirely shut out. I feel for that cast, especially Beanie who is clearly trying her hardest.
This is almost certainly a case of nominators seeing the performance early in the run. Most who saw it early on said it was rough, and while she has grown tremendously in the time since if they only saw an early performance that is all they can judge on.

With a stone clutched in his hand
He was only a boy
But he knew someone must take a stand
There will always be a valley
Always mountains one must scale
There will always be perilous waters
Which someone must sail

Because the play has never been on Broadway before this, she as author has received a Tony nomination for it. It's weird formatting for the nomination list since they don't include the thousands of producers who will also be winning.

This is what makes her absence so glaring. What an absolute joke."
Am I looking at different nominations? Katrina Lenk was nominated for best actress according to Time Out."
That’s an irritating “joke” they do at Time Out. What you read were predictions."
That's Adam Feldman's doing. Irritating is right--such an attention grabber.
Congrats to team BWW for a succinct and clear presentation this morning.
Honestly..I’m kinda nervous. I was not expecting the Paradise Square love. I’m still predicting ASL to take it, but I don’t think it’s clear “ASL” v “Six” like some of us thought.
6 nominations for Best Musical feels like a lot. I always assumed the max was 5.

Paradise Square winning Best Musical is the plot twist no one on that thread saw coming LOL

That feels predictable since it closed so long ago, but it's really too bad because the show and the performances deserved a great deal of praise. One of my favorite shows this season!
People were saying Paradise Square wasn't gonna make it through the summer, that may have just changed drastically!
The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince
I'm happy for Rob McClure, who's working his ass off in that show, and also relieved nothing else was nominated, because it was really the only nomination it deserved.

Remember, the nominees are determined by about 40 people. The winners are voted on by 800 people. The number of nominations is something to promote, but it doesn't really matter. The Tony voters will ultimately decide on what they like the best.
POTUS got exactly the nominations it deserved. Regardless of the quality of the play, the set design was very impressive, and Dratch and White gave excellent performances.
--First of all, I really lost confidence in my predicting abilities this morning. Usually I feel like I have a good handle on the Tonys’ taste, and I can often predict things that are not being widely predicted, because I just have a good sense of the lay of the land. This morning I got a LOT of those wrong. I didn’t post my predictions on this board, but I’m willing to admit it was something of a bloodbath as far as my batting average.
Some examples of the above include:
--Katrina Lenk – still total BS in my opinion, but she was divisive from day 1 so we obviously can’t be too surprised.
--Is This A Room in some of the smaller categories
--Flying Over Sunset for Best musical
--Six for Best Book (I see why people excluded it, but I figured it would get in because it’s always a weak category, and the show is in a strong position overall)
--Ruth Negga for Lead Actress (I thought the production would be totally shut out, including her)
Some other miscellaneous thoughts:
--WOW, so many 6/7 nominee categories this year. Must have been a TON of close races – totally unprecedented.
--KARA YOUNG, KARA YOUNG, KARA YOUNG – I’ve been saying all season she deserved to get in, but when Aduba was put in featured, I think a lot of us felt that Young would be kicked out. I couldn’t be happier that she got in!
--No Skin of Our Teeth for best revival? After being nominated for DIRECTOR?? Total BS! It would be one thing if it was the reverse, because director is the MORE competitive category of the two. So bizarre. But then again, it seems like American Buffalo kicked it out, and American Buffalo ALSO got director, so I guess it kinda makes sense.
--Paradise Square did WAY better than most of us were expecting. We might actually see them continue to chug along until Tony day, after this nominations haul.
--In terms of my predictions, I was 5 for 5 on Best Play, which I’m proud of!
--Overall, they spread the wealth better than I expected – lots of shows got nominations across the categories even if the show itself was more divisive.
EDIT: Just realized Austin Pendleton missed!! Boo! Should've gotten in over Oberholtzer, but I guess that will be an unpopular opinion...
I had a feeling MJ would be the Bohemian Rhapsody of this year's Tonys - controversy or mediocre reviews aside, it made money and captured a vibe, so the industry liked it.

True! All I’m going to say is that if Paradise Square wins Best Musical, I’m going to fight someone lol. From a Touring POV, it is way more digestible than ASL
