Oh yeah!! Also no Jessica Frances Dukes! I was distracted by my happiness over Kara Young, I didn't notice that both of those performances got shut out. But I haven't seen POTUS yet so I can't really judge...
Mare Winningham may very well upset this category.
Sharon D Clarke was not better than Tonya Pinkins who WAS ROBBED for the TONY. And Sharon is a black brit. Her accent was off for a southern black woman.

Wasn’t he out with Covid for a while? Possible they didn’t get to see him.

The last time this happened at least in terms of musical was in 2001 when from The Producers when Brad Oscar was nominated for his role as Franz Liebkind, while understudying the roles of Max Bialystock and Roger De Bris, and Gary Beach who was actually playing Roger De Bris was also nominated. Beach ended up wining the Tony for his performance.
Not the same category, but I can’t help but find it funny last year the musical lead actor category had a single nomination, while this year the play lead actor category has a grand total of seven
Surprised by the omission of Debra Messing, who I thought gave a wonderful performance in Birthday Candles. Wouldn’t have been disappointed with featured nominations for Susannah Flood, Crystal Finn, or John Earl Jelks either.

But worth noting: even last year with COVID and everything, the Lead Actor in a Play category had 6 strong nominees.

Did Brad Oscar ever go on for Roger DeBris? I'd love to see that performance. (I know that understudy assignment carried over from his standby days, I always assumed they just put a different understudy on when Gary was out.)

As I mentioned earlier with POTUS, being a raunchy farce always meant its awards and nominations prospects were slim. The last time a true farce was nominated in Direction was in 2012 for One Man, Two Guvnors and for Best play was 1989 for Ken Ludwig's Lend Me A Tenor. The fact that the committee found room in the scenic design category and nominated White in addition to Dratch says a lot for how well it was received.
No surprise the shows opening earlier, or years ago, received less nominations to those that opened recently.
Very questionable when Paradise Square choreography by Garrett Coleman and Jason Oremus (Irish and Hammerstep choreography) is diminished to" Choreography by Bill T. Jones" . They deserve to be included - as it's a big portion of the show.
Brown shouldn't have been nominated for Direction of A Play (Choreography, yes).
Tamika Lawrence should've been nominated for Caroline Or Change
Strange Loop doesn't deserve a Sound Design nomination. It was the weakest link.

Nominators are required to see all all eligible performers - and eligible performer is defined as those in the cast on opening night. So if a nominator is in the room on the day they do the nominations, they saw Fishburne.
