I first saw Gypsy with Tyne Daly and later in the run with Linda Lavin. As much as I enjoyed the production and Tyne's performance I have never wanted to see Gypsy again. The subsequent cast recordings had their merits and satisfied what interest I had in the vocals and orchestrations.
Audra doesn't interest me in this role (nor did Bernadette) but George C. Wolfe is the creative that I'm genuinely excited about. Depending on his interpretation I may finally be ready to see Gypsy again.

He's also not the type to colorblind cast- if he's directing a black Mama Rose, he is going to really interrogate what it means to be a black woman living that life in that era. He's not afraid to challenge an audience and I am really, really excited to see what that means for his take on Gypsy."
Yes, I'm even more excited for him than for Audra.
I cannot wait to see this- but I agree that she certainly isn’t a lock for the Tony. I’m sure she’ll be great, but vocally this role isn’t a natural fit for her. Nicole S will really be the big story on Broadway ant the end of the year, and I predict she will walk away with that award quite comfortably.

Personally, this doesn't appeal.. Yes she's hugely talented, but the idea of a soprano Mamma Rose does nothing for me. And i'm all Gypsy'd out for a good few years.
Despite her falling in the odds, i'm still backing Katie Brayben for the Tony,"
I'm one of those people. What do you want us to say? She said it wasn't happening. She sounded earnest. We believed her. *shrug*
I think Audra will be swell…she’ll be great. She’ll have the whole world on her plate…well at least her Broadway plate for a bit…
I hear comments about Mama Rose being a Soprano and all will not work with the score and blah blah blah…
Well she did Lady Day without singing Soprano if I remember correctly.
Let’s face it…Gypsy was NEVER a GREAT show and the only actress who sung the hell out of the score in my opinion was Ethel Merman and that’s because the show was conceived with her in mind at the time.
i saw Lansbury…Daly…Lavin …Peters… Lupone versions and they were all okay in their own way I guess some would say.
Lupone screamed her way through the show and Peters voice was dull and raspy plus she was out a lot during her run because of illness?….Tyne Daly was just loud for no reason and she talked/sung the lyrics throughout the show… Lavin voice was a bit better when she replaced Daly but she still wasn’t all that good in my opinion.
Lansbury was a decent Mama Rose and although her voice wasn’t big like Merman’s she did the role justice back in 74…These actresses good or bad brought something different to the role but let’s face it the show itself is not a very good show in the first place.
Rosalind Russell in the film version anyone…?
She Sucked!!!
Bette Midler was good and funny but that’s on film and Midler voice isn’t big and brassy either … she did her best with the score but she was playing Bette Midler and not Mama Rose in my opinion of course
Let’s give Audra her chance to show us her interpretation of this iconic character… who knows maybe it’ll work maybe it won’t…but we’ll see.
Plus with Wolfe at the helm I’ll be there with bells on.
I don’t know if it’s true that Bernadette was out a lot of Gypsy besides the previews where she was indeed sick.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
"Despiterumors to the contrary, McDonald tells ET's Nischelle Turner that she willnotbe returning to Broadway to take on theiconic role of Mama Rose in a revival ofGypsypremiering during the 2024-2025 season.
"Oh no, that was a rumor.I read about that many in theNew York Posttoo," McDonald reveals to ET on the2024 Screen Actors Guild Awardsred carpet Saturday night. "You know, people talk, people talk."""

she belts songs in her concerts and (no surprise) she does it brilliantly.
On a computer I logged on at 9:00am, I now have a wait of 35 minutes in the waiting room. On a second one I just logged on and entered the waiting room and I'll be served in 23 minutes.

Telecharge explained that everyone is given a random place in "line" when it opens at 10am. It doesn't account for how long you were in the waiting room.
