I remember he’d been linked to Damn Yankees last winter/earlier this year."
He's been seemingly linked to that for like 10 years, which doesn't feel like a great part for Mr. Gravitas and is not a revival that anyone is begging for."
Which distinguishes it from playing Herbie in yet another production of Gypsy how exactly?
Well hopefully by 2026 someone will realize how wrong she is for this.
Ughh, no. It wasn't a skirted Denial. It was a denial. Her quote as reported by ET who got the original comment (not playbill and others who misrepresented it)
"Oh no, that was a rumor. I read about that many in the New York Post too," McDonald reveals to ET on the 2024 Screen Actors Guild Awards red carpet Saturday night. "You know, people talk, people talk."

Now we're alleging a website under lock and key is for a production that's 2 years in the future. This is a little sad honestly. Let's ignore that that the website was registered as soon people started "reporting" it here. I wonder why... someone scrambling to own a domain perhaps? How odd of someone who knew just what website address to plug in to get the result they wanted... hmm...

I never claimed he'd be a good Herbie!
But I also don't think Audra is an ideal Rose (give me LaChanze or Da'Vine Joy Randolph or Cynthia Erivo or Keala Settle), and I'm not dying for another revival of Gypsy, so maybe the goal of this rumored production is "miscast" 🤪
This is exactly why she wants changes. This ain’t Arthur Laurents, Julie Styne’s Gypsy. It’s AUDRA’S GYPSY. She’s the star! And will change it to suit her.
No, doll, it is STILL Laurents, Styne, and Sondheim’s GYPSY. Laurents made some changes to LuPone’s revival to suit her, but a star shouldn’t get to demand that a show gets REWRITTEN for them.
Since we're making it up as we go along, I hear Tom Kitt is being brought in to do a complete overhaul of the score. He'll be bringing Jule Styne's vintage score into the modern era. Just wait until you hear the new version of "If Momma Was Married" with nothing but acoustic guitars.

They already did that with OKLAHOMA!

Are you on the imaginary production team?

Clearly that’s never happening on Broadway, but I’m actually very intrigued by that idea.
My dream casting that would have needed to happen about 40 years ago is Carol Burnett.

I am not sure where you get your information from, but I have been informed by amazingly good sources that 3 former Mama Roses will be playing the strippers. Bette Midler will be Mazeppa, Bernadette will be Tessie, and Patti Lapone will be Electra. However in the new book Mazeppa will be playing the kazoo.
For those who may be too young to know, the composer's name is JULE STYNE. Not Julie. Not Jules.
You're welcome.

Yes it’s spelled “Jule” but it’s pronounced “Joo-lee”. So its not an absurd mistake to make.

Could someone explain this to me? Is there a lyric I'm forgetting or some connection I'm not making here?
