$0.50 FOR AN OBC SUNDAY IN THE PARK PLAYBILL
Stand-by Joined: 7/1/09
This was my first year going, it was a blast.
My favorite purchase was the Gypsy revival opening night gift which is a sterling silver fortune cookie that opens up and has a fortune reading "Everything's coming up roses." $10.
Yeah, I was in and out of there from 10 until about 5:45. Had I known anyone was interested in the Beheading in Spokane script, I would have gladly walked away with the one offered for $1.
I did very well.

And various other little stuff that was thrown in.
I gotta have a place to put my change! Who better to look after it than Caroline?
The one thing I wanted more than anything today was something from the OBC of Follies... and then I saw it... the original three sheet, framed and looking like perfection. And when I went to make an offer, they said it had just sold moments ago... for FIFTY BUCKS! I got a ton of great stuff, but lament missing out on my Holy Grail.
I surprisingly didn't shop too much this year but my only real purchase was a doozy - a large plaster paperweight shaped like Young Cosette that was an opening night gift for the "Les Miz" revival. I plan on using it as a bookend. Yessssss. I bought it at like 11am so I had to carry it around all day! It was fun putting it down during celeb photos!
I can't believe I didn't see the Ragtime sampler. Would anyone who got it be willing to e-mail me the tracks that are on it. I'd really appreciate it.

I am incredibly jelaous of the ragtime sampler cd. I went to the flea in the morning and at about 6pm and never saw it.
My favorite item I bought was A Little Night Music Opening Night Champagne Glasses for $10.
I got some window cards (A Chorus Line, Seafarer, After Miss Julie, and a few others), and do to my sometimes inexcusable obsession with Coram boy, a mug and two magnets from the show.
I didn't think it was good as last year honestly even as crammed as it was in Roseland.
I picked up a [title of show] Opening Night gift ($2) and two In the Heights scarves ($5). It was my first year, so I only spent a little, but I was happy!
I had a hard time deciding what was and wasn't worth spending my money on, since I don't have space for windowcards and I don't make a big habit of collecting Playbills for shows I've never seen. And although the Martin Pakledinaz design sketches and copies for Gypsy, Blithe Spirit and Lend Me a Tenor were all gorgeous. In the end I settled on:
-An Evita souvenir program for $10. (although I later saw one at another table for $5 and was kind of bummed)
-The In the Next Room script that was given to Tony voters for $5.
-A plaque that had been hanging backstage at the Eugene O'Neill that said "Our 2006 Tony Award Winner for Best Revival: Sweeney Todd" for $20.
-A Finian's Rainbow caricature (not the Squigs one, unfortunately) for $5.
-A picture with Donna Murphy. (she was kind of overwhelming)
-2 tshirts from The Grand Manner (one for me and one for a friend) for $15 each. They wouldn't budge on the price all day, but it's charity
-a Playbill from The Mystery of Edwin Drood (with Donna Murphy as Drood) for $0.50 for another friend.
-A Xanadu magnet for the same friend for $1.
-The hoodie, tshirt and program deal they had for Liza's at the Palace for $20 for yet a third friend.
-Minnelli on Minnelli program for $5 for the same friend.
and a quiche from the Lion King table for $3.
Did anyone have Grandma read them a vagina monologue?
I didn't think it was good as last year honestly even as crammed as it was in Roseland
I couldn't disagree more. A root canal would be a more pleasant experience than last year's sweaty, smelly affair in Roseland. With the exception of today's very brief shower, the weather could not have been more perfect, and there were tons of interesting items available and a large selection of things to leaf through.

This is the first time in 6 years that I missed the flea market! Can't believe I forgot.. remembered this morning, but couldn't go because I had to coach. Congrats on all the great finds, everyone!

Dang! I somehow missed the Behanding scripts too! This was my first time at the flea market, I didn't make it a huge spree.
-Noises Off playbill signed by Richard Easton, came with a couple "Noises On" playbills (the show within the show)
-Playbill for "I Remember Mama" (Marlon Brando's Broadway debut)
-A Billy Elliot letter (had Dayton Tavares sign it since he was there)
-A self portrait of Dayton Tavares on a paper plate, also signed by him
Was a great day, I had a blast. Can't remember the prices, so I'll just list what I got...

Very pleased with it all ....
Does anyone know what the Modern Family auction was? And how much it went for?
It included round trip airfare to L.A., 2 nights hotel stay, and a visit to the set of Modern Family for the day (and possibly lunch with the cast, I don't remember). It went for close to 4 grand, if I remember correctly.
I wasn't able to stay long, since I was with my school and we were seeing the matinee of La Bete. But I did find a windowcard for Patti LuPone at Les Mouches, which made my day.
Does anyone know what the Modern Family auction was? And how much it went for?
The Modern Family auction was a visit to the set in LA (flight included) and a 2-night stay at the Omni Hotel. It sold for $3400.

"Did anyone have Grandma read them a vagina monologue?"
Grandma had read two monologues by the time I had to leave to head down to the theatre for my crew call, and when our producers showed up at the theatre after the show that night they said she had read four more.
Having her do that was a totally spur of the moment idea and she was a great sport in going along with it.
What was the Grandma thing? I didn't see that.
I didn't get to look around until after 1pm, so may have missed a lot of stuff. Besides Ragtime, was there a lot of stuff from recently closed shows (South Pacific, Enron, etc)?
One interesting thing I got that I didn't see mentioned yet was the broken record prop from Memphis, signed by Chad Kimball and Montego Glover. They had them by date, but I didn't see the one from the specific show I saw, unfortunately.
I also got the Japanese program for Wicked for $1.
One of the booths had someone's grandma sitting on a chair in front, and for a $5 donation grandma would read you a Vagina Monologue. That was a genius spur of the moment idea; everyone I watched walking by her totally stopped to discuss it.
Along similar lines, at the Billy Elliot table the little girls were announcing that for a donation you could dance with a real live Billy Elliot, and as I was walking by their table some guy next to me commented "I'm pretty sure that's illegal in this state." Ha.
South Pacific had a bunch of their usual stuff (signed white hats, programs) at the Lincoln Center table.
And thanks for the info on the scavenger hunt!
Can you imagine Jackie Hoffman as Addams Grandma reading the Vagina Monologues? That's totally what I thought it was when I saw it mentioned!
