In May of last Spring, i planned my Broadway trip from Palm Springs...i would be seeing COMPANY on my 74th birthday, Dec 21, 2021...51 years after seeing the original Broadway production in the Summer of 1970...i got a really low airfare and hotel rate from Expedia...then in September of this past Fall, i got the news the Paramount Hotel would not be reopening until 2022 and i would have to find a new hotel...which i did, at a much higher cost...and then the OMICRON covid started to be known...and just yesterday due to all the Broadway show cancellations and fears for my own health to consider...I cancelled my long planned trip...luckily American Airlines gave me a credit on my airfare for 5 months, and the Row Hotel NYC cancellation was also done with no charge to me...
This was all done with a heavy heart for sure...i just had this image of getting sick in a hotel room in a city not where i lived, and also, COMPANY might get cancelled on the one night i was there to see this production...
I am hoping that by Spring this resurgence of covid will once again lighten so that my Broadway dreams will be allowed to be done...
SOME GOOD NEWS...i got a complete refund from TELECHARGE on all 3 musicals i was ticketed to see...
i want to try for a trip this March to see ANYONE CAN WHISTLE at Carnegie Hall, and of course if COMPANY is still running...BUT i will wait to book this trip until early 2022 just to be certain it can happen...i fell bad for Broadway and all the people like myself who love it and want to be there in person...
I don’t think it’s helpful to speculate on a single “super spreader event” this time of year. There have been many opening night parties. And holiday parties. And concerts. And cabarets. And galas. And on and on. Until this past week or so, life had been very approaching “normal” in the city, and that meant a lot of socializing, a lot of travel in and out of the city, and a lot of opportunities for COVID to spread.

I agree with Kad, and must note: remember when we were into "contact tracing"? That's basically disappeared from the pandemic lexicon as a real time means of controlling spread of infection. As 2021 ebbs, it's dangerous to indict one event over another, since being in any closed space for 10-15 minutes with the unmasked and under-vaccinated (using current diagnostics, understanding the post-Omicron situation is fluid) can invite spread. Broadway has been exemplary in its protocols. If we knew precisely how these positives happened -- as they capriciously land in some theaters but not (yet) others -- we'd do things differently. For now, we protect as we go.

More cancellations to come - it shouldn’t be surprising to anyone anymore. My guess is bway will shut down for a lil bit (maybe a month or 2) for the Covid cases to drop and then reopen in the early spring
You also repeatedly insisted as a fact that Caroline or Change would be closed by the end of November, so I don’t think your opinion carries a ton of weight.

Nobody cares about covid anymore… the covid today is not the same covid of 2 yrs ago… please move on and stop wishing upon peoples lives to be ruined bc of closures. You can stay home.
Just got an email saying the Moulin Rouge matinee today was canceled. I was worried going into my trip, but was trying to be hopeful. Didn’t help I got an email about an hour ago talking about admission/vaccine details for today’s performance, which gave me a little hope. Oh well. I have Wicked on Tuesday and this is also my first trip to NYC so I’m just trying to enjoy being here.

Only a handful of shows are down right now. I’m sure there’s another show you can grab last minute tickets for! Good luck and enjoy your time in NYC!

If I were in your shoes I'd take the opportunity to see Caroline, or Change today (this is not me saying "it's good, go see it!" - because I haven't! But it's a limited run and you're finding yourself in the city during that run with tickets to a cancelled show. Take advantage, I say!). And I don't think you can really go wrong with Come From Away or Waitress which also have performances today
All of my friends who saw Waitress loooooved it. One still talks about it 3 years later. Might be hard but it’s possible you could get a 2 show day in with 2 matinees (1pm and 3pm).

Waitress has a 7pm today so it would be very easy to do 2 shows today. If I were kwazi, I'd probably do Caroline & Waitress. But it definitely sucks that they travelled to see Moulin Rouge and it was cancelled.
Because of Christmas shifting schedules, there are also a lot more Monday shows scheduled than a normal week. Maybe try to go to Company tomorrow?

Not sure why Hadestown is showing as going today on all these websites still. I got a cancellation email yesterday from the theater and from seat geek. I’ve already received my refund.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular - Remainder of run canceled.
"
WOW - this is mind boggling the amount of cancellations this weekend and the amount of theatergoers that had tickets to see these shows. What's next week going to look like - scary to even think about that!? Could The Music Man, Lion King, Aladdin, Caroline and Phantom end up cancelling next week due to covid? UGH!"
Here we go - Now Aladdin! COVID-19 cases have been detected within the company of Aladdin at The New Amsterdam Theatre. Because the wellness and safety of our guests, cast, and crew are our top priority, today's performances on Sunday, December 19, 2021 at 1:00pm and 6:30pm are canceled. Performances are scheduled to resume Tuesday, December 21 at 7:00pm.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. We were scrambling to find tickets to Waitress and Six (other shows that were on our list but we decided against) and couldn’t find anything in our budget (college students). I’ve already seen CFA on tour. Was considering Caroline or Change as well, but at this point I was just feeling so drained by the whole thing that I think were just going to get lunch in Brooklyn and have a chill afternoon. Just not emotionally feeling a show today anymore. Hoping for the best for Wicked on Tuesday and luckily we still have a bunch of non-Broadway plans here so at least we will be able to enjoy that.
Aladdin cancelling brings us to only 20 Broadway shows performing today.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
It's unfortunate that there are zero places, even that new "Broadway today" supposedly up to the minute schedule (which still lists Hadestown as having had a show last night 12/18), that can offer accurate information about which shows are cancelled and when. Only this Broadwayworld board has reliably compiled the information for everyone to see.
Kudos to everyone sharing their knowledge and observations here!
