Hmm. I love the opening and closing numbers, but I too am getting a bit bored of him.
I know you.
I know you.
I know you.

Just like most things in the Tony world, path of least resistance. How about Jon Hamm? At least he is beautiful to look at. The ratings will be the lowest in years.

I'm okay with it, just as long as they don't pull out the old "theater is for fags" jokes again.
"Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

I actually think NPH is handsome

NPH is very handsome! David Burtka is a lucky man indeed.

I hope that read as sarcastic. NPH is so irrelevant btw.

Irrelevant to most people but himself. As I said elsewhere, his appeal is undermined by the fact that he's all too aware of his own wonderfulness.

He's so gross. Remember when he mocked Amy Winehouse's death?

I don't recall that, but it's cringeworthy when closet-cases come out and are immediately sainted.

In another thread about same subject, somebody mentioned David Hyde Pierce and I thought that was a excellent idea. He is obviously famous for TV show "Frasier" and has won a Tony. I think he can be witty without being "full of himself" like NPH.

I'm with broadwayjim42.
I just don't care about what he'd bring, because it would be nothing new.

"It is NOT the host who makes or breaks the Tony telecast. It is the routining - the way the program is put together."
Sorry. But this is totally BS. The host is one of the main ingredients.

NPH was never in the closet. When the subject publicly came up, and his agent denied that he was gay, NPH immediately spoke up and said that he was in fact gay. He never hid it, so he didn't have to come out. And I've never heard anyone calling him a saint.

Holy Jesus Mary and Joseph.
There are a lot of impossible-to-please Cunts around here.
I get wanting something different to make things feel fresh, but the bile is unnecessary.

Seriously, is there no one else?
Common sense? What's common about it? No one has common sense. It should be called rare sense.

Apparently, no one else that people "outside the business" care about. Suggestions for people like Jim Parsons and Jon Hamm as host, while interesting, miss one of the central functions of a 21st century master of ceremonies.
The host is, to a certain extent, the sacred clown. They balance the evening's tone of praise, adulation and glamour by poking fun at the participators, the art form, and the act of awards shows themselves. A host like Jim Parsons, I worry, would be awkward and off-putting in the way that James Franco and Anne Hathaway were as Oscar hosts. Jon Hamm would bring dignity and gravitas to hosting... which, apparently, is exactly the last thing awards show hosts need, as the rest of the evening has dignity and gravitas to spare.

It's a new year RobbieJ, and apparently NPH is the new Anne Hathaway! Liking NPH is SO early 00s.
But now that it's officially official and a host has been chosen (it doesn't matter who), it is officially the WORST TONY BROADCAST EVER.

Angela Lansbury never did those things! She just donned a giant burrito and schooled the audience on a lesson in CLASS.

What's the opening number going to be? What if Broadway were like me?

At first I wasn't overly excited about this
But then I re-watched last years and that re-kindled my love for him
I'm officially jumping on the NPH Bandwagon and an really looking forward to seeing what he'll do this year.

Let me be your star, now wouldn't that be lovely?

NPH is close to becoming a self-parody of a host ala Billy Crystal. You know just what kind of numbers he will do, jokes he will tell. Snooze.
Too bad hosting can't be done straight (pun intended) like Lansbury did it. Class, tact, respect. Today, hosts have to be "in on the joke" with a disdain for what they are actually doing.

Just as Angela Lansbury is all "class, tact and respect," Harris is all shine, artifice and style, and he knows it, and he knows that the audience knows it. His whole persona is showbiz, it's meta, it's "giving the people what they want."
OH MY GOD. He needs to be Billy Flynn at the Hollywood Bowl. He might just be perfect.
