Whoever they cast, I just hope they put together something a little more true to the original than what I've seen of current shows being done. Just some of the still images make my heart weep for an Angel who is a poor yet fashionable drag baby and for the sweet smitten couple that Wilson and Jesse gave us. I don't know if they try for a more "edgy" Angel or what the goal is but if there isn't an innocence to Angel her singing about causing someone's dog to commit suicide just becomes monstrous.
With this coming from Fox, I can't imagine it won't somehow wind up being an indictment of the characters, their lifestyles, and some of the common plot points that detractors object to.

But Fox has still been subject to plenty of "attacks" over some of their content. True, it's been many years, but Married with Children certainly didn't sit well with a lot of the more conservative types, and a certain president spoke out very vocally about The Simpsons and their destructive influence.
That being said, I still don't have any expectation that this will be even a halfway decent product. I'd like to be proven wrong, but I'm not holding my breath.

NYPD Blue was on ABC

You know, after I typed that I started second guessing myself. I should have done better research.
^ Oh my goodness Layton Williams is the Angel I saw in London a few months ago in the "Rent" production at the St James theatre (before it became The Other Palace, I think). He was MINDBLOWING. I would love for him to be in it.
Has anyone on here seen the petition to bring the current 20th Anniversary Tour cast to the Fox production? To be honest, there's only one or two performances I would be alright with to bring over.
Guys, c'mon. Rocky Horror wasn't live and was directed by Kenny Ortega - a guy mostly known as the director of High School Musical and sequels and a Hannah Montana concert/movie.
Grease: Live, on the other hand, was a completely different thing - and a very good one. Rent: Live is also being produced by the Jonathan Larson estate, after all. I doubt they would let Fox shred the book or make poor decisions.

I'm a HUGE Renthead and I REALLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYY hope that Fox DOES NOT mess this up. I don't want them to cut out all of the songs like in the movie where they cut out Christmas Bells, We're Okay, Happy New Year A + B, etc.
Anyway, here is who I think should be in the cast:
I wonder if it was postponed so Ben Platt can star in JCS and Rent.

Anyway, here is who I think should be in the cast:
Mark - DEFINITELY Ben Platt
Roger - ?????
Mimi - Jasmine Cephas Jones
Joanne - Amber Riley or Danielle Brooks
Maureen - Lea Michele or Demi Lovato
Angel - DEFINITELY Todrick Hall
Collins - ?????
Benny - Leslie Odom, Jr."
This is almost exactly the cast I dreamt up. Amber and Demi for sure, although I also think Cynthia Erivo would be a great Joanne. I think Leslie is a little too old to blend in with the rest of this particular cast. And I think Brendan Urie would be a fantastic Roger! Collins and Benny are a total mystery to me!
I think it would be awesome if they could get Idina to do a pre-recorded cameo as Marks mother.

Seeing people dream cast this show is exasperating. Mimi is Spanish. You can not, and should not, just cast any person of color in that role. It's specifically written for a Latina women. Renée Elise Goldsberry was FANTASTIC, I will admit, but miscast - solely because she was not the correct race.
They/them.
