It sucks but when the show isn't good, the tony noms go elsewhere. I'd say this show closes at the latest by the end of summer."
I really hope they will replace Beanie with a gifted vocalist. I actually enjoyed the show, especially dance numbers and would love to see it again but just not with a current lead.

Shows have to absorb the cost of their performance (the Tony Awards doesn’t cover those costs), so if FUNNY GIRL’s producers want to spend the money, you will see a performance from FUNNY GIRL. ON YOUR FEET! also was completely snubbed at the Tony Awards (only nomination was for Best Choreography), and they performed on the Tony Awards."
Thanks. I get a vibe that this team will go for it. Jared?

It’s safe to assume FUNNY GIRL will perform a medley so the 4 leads can be featured, and yes, Jared will have a tap dance spotlight moment in all this.
while i personally have not seen beanie perform as i opted to see julie benko (who did a great job) - the production as a whole is guttered with flaws.
it is from my pov a very poorly designed show.
add to that a miscast and poorly received leading lady and you have a most unfortunate situation.
i don't see this show running much longer.
which is a shame because i was rooting for it from day 1.
i was hoping for a nostalgic hit on very much the same level as the midler-led revival of 'hello dolly'.

This has been the case for a long time."
Disclaimer: Big Ramin fan here, so take it how you will. The only show I can think of where he had lines and singing was Anastasia and I thought he was quite good. Phantom and Les Miz (Tony Nominees) were more operatic in structure and his acting was great in all 3 (including Love Never Dies - Olivier Nominee). He did Holby City for 2 years and his acting was amazing - comic, tragic, romantic. Granted his voice is his primary talent and what a talent that is.
The problem with this show is the leading lady and all other issues stem from that. To act, it's nice to have something to REact to. Beanie's acting skills (I've never seen her in anything else) appear to be film related, which is completely different from stage acting. Even so, there was no there there. I have never seen Ramin perform with anyone (male or female) where he didn't have some sort of chemistry. So, I think he did a great job taking Nicky along his path.
When I heard he was going to do this show, I thought he would be a great Nicky. He was offered the role almost 3 years and I wonder who was considered for Fanny back in 2019. I would love to see him with Julie Benko in this venue. I heard boots of the three main songs and her singing and acting were fantastic.
Different leading lady, different result.
Bottom line, however, there would have been no Funny Girl without Beanie. Anyway you look at it she is responsible for the production. Only wish someone might have had the sense and courage and/or good grace when realizing the boat wasn't going to float to replace her - that includes Beanie, herself. If that sounds mean, I'm sorry. This seems to be the general consensus, so I don't think I'm too out of line.
Not sure how long or how many of her fans will continue to support her. Some people may want to see the show because there are some high points and it's a fun piece more in line with Music Man than Company. Still, there are a lot of other shows people will want to spend their money on.
Ghost performed on the Tonys with no substantive nominations; FG could perform. Will the producers risk the performance hurting the show? Have we seen Feldstein perform anywhere else, live? Is footage widely available of the show? No. The show is still being sold as it was in previews: via print.

I feel badly saying/thinking this because it would mean people lose jobs but I’m kind of hoping this show closes in early August. I have a cousin’s trip to NYC the weekend of 8/19 and this was the chosen show and tickets were purchased months before opening—big mistake. I wanted to bail out for a refund since they were giving them until 5/1 but was out voted (I’m by far the pickier one in the group). I’ll go if I have to because I want to see family but I’m really hoping the decision is made for us and we can go to Company instead.

I agree with you. FG's book isn't fabulous but it can be saved with excellence in the other areas (direction, costumes, set, etc), and I think this production is a little bit of a miss. Its unfortunate because I think we were all rooting for this show to be something spectacular. It had the potential to be spectacular. Can't win em all I suppose.

I’d rather see Pam Anderson perform a number from ‘Chicago’ on the telecast.

Sadly, Anderson ends her run in CHICAGO the previous Sunday June 5th, so it makes no sense for her to perform. But, I would not rule out her presenting an award based on how well the Broadway community embraced her so it’s her way of saluting Broadway.

Bumping into other people during dance numbers, coming in too early on cues, and needing to severely reduce the choreography because she can't execute it--as multiple people who saw her attested and have commented in the Chicago thread--has caused her to be "embraced" by the Broadway community?
The discrepancy between your venom at Beanie and your endless excuses for Anderson are telling. Seems like they are both mostly embraced by people who don't go see a lot of Broadway shows, but feel an affection for the respective performers based on t.v./movies work.

Honestly, if Music Man (which I thought was distinctly average) got a nomination, then Funny Girl should have as well. It just comes across as mean spirited to me from the Tony nominating committee, imo.

MM, while nothing earth shattering, was a MUCH more enjoyable evening.
I wish people would stop making it sound like this was personal.

It's not the Tony nominating committee's job to be "nice".

This implies some intention on behalf of the committee to exclude FG. Isn't it the case that everyone voted blind for 3, presumably (almost) everyone voted for Company and Caroline, so they were all left with 1 vote to throw at either MM or FG. If it was about split, then they both get in, but it wasn't so FG was excluded. I haven't seen FG yet (have tickets, though), but found MM an enjoyable evening. I'm not exactly surprised it was an overwhelming favorite v FG considering it picked up 3 acting nods (i.e., the voters enjoyed it enough).

A bit o/t, but is the number of nominees in each category fixed, or is there room for flexibility? I haven’t followed the Tonys in the past couple of years, but if memory serves there were fewer nominees in some categories in the past.

Here's the rule: There shall be no more than four nominees in each category; provided; (A) If there are at least nine eligible candidates for nomination in any of the 26 established competitive categories, then there shall be five nominees in that category.
And yet this year, there are SIX nom in a number of categories. Isn't there also a rule about how many votes are needed to get the last spot - if it's going to be expanded? (I could be confusing that with something else.)

Yes, your'e right. If there's a tie for the last slot, all of those who tied are nominated so it can result in more than five nominees:
There shall be no more than four nominees in each category; provided; (A) If there are at least nine eligible candidates for nomination in any of the 26 established competitive categories, then there shall be five nominees in that category. (B) In the event that there is a two-way or three-way tie for the last slot of nominations in any of the 26 established competitive categories, both or all three of those candidates shall be nominated.

I thought Music Man and Funny Girl were actually pretty comparable nights, but I do agree with you. The rules say that when there are 4 potential nominees, only 3 will be nominated (with the exception of a tie). The only things I think you could say are actually snubs are Jane Lynch and the choreography (although mostly for Ayodele Casel's tap choreography). Everything else I think it's pretty fair that they weren't nominated.

Music Man while not perfect and lacking something--- still has very competent leading players across the board. And you can see where the money went on that stage.
Sutton Foster is a dream (in spite of that very weird My White Knight) and Hugh Jackman missing a certain "je ne sais quoiI" in the role can still sing and dance and charm his way through it. And the sets are stellar.
Yes something is missing in the Music Man... but No one is embarrassing on that stage. Something off.. yes but not embarrassing.
The lead in Funny Girl is embarrassingly miscast and over her head. The set not so great.
Understand Music Man over Funny Girl
