Has she? Contractually I’m sure she’d have to anyway if she wanted to keep her Disney retirement payout.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Somehow I just can't picture Nicole Kidman performing "Zazz." Her personality on-camera strikes me as very subdued and elegant- not at all like how Angie Schworer played the role that was written for her.
Also, is the girl in the blue dress behind Kidman, the actress playing Emma? I can't tell.

Donna Murphy on Twitter responded to a thread questioning whether she dubbed Streep in any way on INTO THE WOODS with the following reply: "There's not an ounce of truth to that. Meryl was & is, her own magnificent self."
“I knew who I was this morning, but I've changed a few times since then.”
I think Kidman will be great. She doesn't do comedy often, but she can be quite funny. I think it'll be fun to see her let loose. She looks like she's having the time of her life in the upbeat parts of MOULIN ROUGE.

Totally agree. She deservedly won a Golden Globe (and was robbed of an Academy Award nomination) for her wonderful performance in TO DIE FOR.
I just don’t get the whole Corden movie musical thing either. Am I missing something here, because his voice is so bang average to me! It’s not even good imo. Just kind of passable for an entertainer.
I wonder when this will come out, since that In The Heights is delayed until June 2021 this is the only other high profile musical (second only to the more anticipated West Side Story) to come out. I would love to see a trailer to this and a musical comedy is actually fitting for Ryan Murphy more than most of his recent projects.
It would be very hard to screw up a musical like The Prom so I am looking forward to this due to the cast which is a mix of well-known and unknown actors.
EDIT: Nevermind the TVLine article says it's coming out Christmas Day, which is interesting considering that it's a week after West Side Story's release date.

Expectations are low given how lame he was in Cats, but I think Corden is a good fit for Barry Glickman. I remember he also got to see- and loved- The Prom live, so who knows what little ticks he might take from Ashmanskas? (though it's hard to completely replicate him- I thought sometimes when he moved, it was as if he were floating on air)

I don't know about if the release date really matters. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this part of the Ryan Murphy/Netflix deal? It can, in theory, come out whenever they want it to with the streaming service.

I don’t believe a Christmas release has been confirmed. Everything I’ve read has just said the fourth quarter of 2020. Of course, that could get delayed.
I doubt we will know a date until a month or so before hand. Netflix rarely puts out release dates far in advance

Isn't Corden straight? Having a straight man in 2020 play an overly flamboyant gay man is past cringe.
Listen, I don't take my clothes off for anyone, even if it is "artistic". - JANICE
He is indeed straight- so you're saying that Corden's casting will be condemned even if he has the big heart and energy that Barry has? It is still a real possibility in this day and age.
Only time will tell; his involvement with The Prom has not been eviscerated big-time by the more credible sources like Eleanor! just yet.

No, not even a little bit. He is recognizable, fun, and honestly people are so starved for musical theater content, I'm sure it will be very well received especially on Christmas!
Should gay actors be excluded from playing straight characters then?
What the hell are you talking about? Tons of openly gay actors play straight characters regularly. Always have and always will. Sarah Paulson, Holland Taylor, Lily Tomlin, Neil Patrick Harris, Matt Bomer, Jim Parsons... the list is endless.
