Sutton, I couldn’t agree with you more. When I kept seeing she was attached I wondered “who is she playing?” MONICA?!? If I’m proven wrong I’ll gladly eat my beret. Murphy’s casting is all nepotism, older actress hagiography fan-girling, straight crushes he wants naked and people who never gave him the time of day before. He works out his issues through casting. I’m all for casting outside the box, but at least try check some of the boxes for Monica. Good god.
What a perfect post, Bettyboy. I love you. Spittin straight fax about it all!
Ben Platt used his in with Murphy to get her this role? And she got more attention after she performed that duet with him? Possibly. The former is speculation, the latter is anecdotal. But I won’t deny that these are both potentially true.
But to call her “Ben Platt’s sidekick” is simply ridiculous when the cold hard facts of her career say otherwise. She had a major role in a Best Pictutre-nominated film, followed by the lead role in another popular film. And both of those were in addition to other work, such as in Hello Dolly, and Neighbors. None of these had anything to do with Ben Platt. Are you actually suggesting that this Into the Woods duet did more for her career than Lady Bird or Booksmart combined? Even if Merrily and Monica were both a result of her friendship with Ben Platt, she would still have a solid, respectable resume to stand behind on her own merits. OR - if you must accuse of her being a beneficiary of favoritism, wouldn’t it make way more sense to say it was because of Jonah Hill? Surely being Jonah Hill’s sister did much more for her career than her friendship with Platt. But even so, I think she’s worthy of the success she’s gotten.
As for whether she’s a big enough star for Fanny - that’s a different question. I’d probably agree that she wouldn’t get enough butts in seats. But they’d have my money!
I’ll take Beanie any day over Platt. This still probably needs a A-lister to sell out, but Beanie does have Impeachment coming up which could really help catapult her like it did for Sarah Paulson and Sterling K Brown.

Jessie Mueller was wonderful in Waitress and Carousel proving she can lead a production, so I think she would be absolute perfection in the role."
I was wondering that, thank you. I'd love to see Jessie in this but I think she'll be in The Minutes during this time. I was also thinking about Laura Benanti or Dianna Agron.
This is a very touchy subject in terms of the moderators, so I will say the following which violates no rules on this website.
It's my opinion that she is his side-kick. That's all that it is. You have another one. Cool.
And what I said was "She wasn't on anyone's radar until Ben Platt started to become known for DEH". I never said she started becoming more well known only after performing with him. Never. And her "biggest roles" were after he was being noticed in DEH, which was in 2016. Which is what I stated originally. I hope that clears everything up and puts an end to this. Thanks, enjoy your evening.
Beanie wouldn’t be my first choice, but I’m shocked at some of the comments here? She was absolutely hysterical in DOLLY, and I loved her in BOOKSMART. Implying that Ben Platt got her any of this is quite the jump.

As a gypsy a.k.a. Louise. One major consideration is the majority of the plot has a Fanny Brice is a very young character. It’s only at the end of the show when Nicky gets out of prison that she’s in her 30s.

It’s like we’re listening to whiny third grade girls who are so sad that they were not included in bins little click that they have nothing to do but complain all the time. It’s so ludicrous I can’t believe it. Bins group of high school friends has an incredible amount of talent. Many of them have not gotten a single break to mention.
It must kill these people to see other people succeed in all they can do is whine and be catty.

Great picture! Thanks for posting.
My husband and I saw Gaga at her Vegas Residency (the "Jazz and Piano" show) a couple of years back. She had some very funny moments. Yeah, I can definitely see Lady Gaga as Fanny Brice in "Funny Girl".

And that's not me dream casting, that's who will be playing the role.
Beanie is signed as Fanny as the original choice this revival was coming in for was Idina Menzel (Granny Brice lol) who either turned it down or had too many scheduling problems.
You can believe me or not. lol"
This does actually make sense. She’s about to star as Monica Lewinsky in American Crime Story: Impeachment and if she gets rave reviews and/or nominated for an Emmy then her star will be burning pretty brightly.
I have never liked Beanie Feldstein. I've felt that since she left Dolly, she has been forced down my throat as "the next greatest actress of our time", and I disagree.
Yes, Ben Platt's name and her name have been used frequently in the same sentence, and I'm not a big fan of Platt's so I am disappointed if this news is true.
It's hard because, random people have been right before, and we have curled in defeat...but there is always the chance it could be right.
I feel like an unknown is the way to go.
