Next stop: Perry's Passion! from the city of redemption.
I'm still not convinced Julianne hough is someone we should know.
The actress who played Patti Simcox was a hoot, as was the actress who played Blanche. Ana Gasteyer was perfectly cast.
I also thought someone else should have been driving the trams at the end. That part made me nervous.

Nicely done. Far better format than the NBC shows. Closer to how MTV did Legally Blonde. I'd love to see Fox do a couple of these a year.

Legally Blonde was just shot in Broadway house, right?
best12bars- That was exactly what I was thinking about Vanessa. Wasn't too sure in the beginning, but she grew on me.
I think Carly Rae Jepsen and Kether Donohue were the best out of all the ladies. The guys unfortunately did not leave much of an impact. I did like Aaron Tveit, but do agree with those who said he got lost in some of the musical numbers. I guess I would put myself in the mixed to positive group.
I just finished it and thought it was excellent and far superior to any of the others NBC has done.

get rid of those dumb hosting bits that mario lopez did, lose the lip syncing, and use the audience the whole way through and the next one will be a home run.
Yes, MTV's broadcast of LEGALLY BLONDE: The Musical was filmed in its Broadway home: the Palace Theatre. 3 performances were filmed and edited as one single performance. It was not broadcast "live."
For those interested, the Digital HD copy of the show will be available on Tuesday. So far, I just see it'll be on Vudu but hopefully iTunes later... just in case you're like me and can't wait a month for the DVD **and** the Target edition soundtrack.
Bye Bye Birdie with Jennifer Lopez as Rosie would be a lot of fun.

Glad to see positive reactions and looking forward to watching this on my DVR. I've been dismayed by the live telecasts and wasn't sure if I would watch or not. With Sound of Music I watched just long enough to watch Queen Audra ?????? sing Climb Every Mountain and then I turned off the abomination and got the original on Netflix. I watched 5 minutes of Peter Pan and turned it off. The Wiz was better and I had most of it on in the background, but the lack of live audience was still so horribly awkward--I felt like why are they not getting a live audience for this? I've only ever seen the movie Grease and I don't particularly care for it, but wth these reports I'll definitely be checking this out on DVR! Thanks for all the comments everybody!
ETA: The question marks after Queen Audra were praise hands emoji. Stupid BWW.

Olivia Newton-John is from Australia so her Sandy was made Australian. Julianne Hough was born and raised in Salt Lake City as is her Sandy. I guess it's safe to assume the writers chose to honor the actresses playing Sandy by having their "Sandy" be from their hometowns as well.
I feel like most of you guys are white. No one went this crazy for The Wiz. I'm biased. I thought it was boring; I fell asleep.

Correction: Julianne is from Orem (which is a sister city to Provo, the home of BYU), not Salt Lake City.

Um. There was a ton of love for The Wiz on this board.

I thought Julianne was too country at some parts but she grew on me as the show went on. Vanessa was a standout. Ana was perfection. I kind of think grease is just meh but I thought there was some great camera work. NBC has some work to do.

Thought Fox did a great job with this truly adventurous production. All three of the leads were great. My heart went out to Vanessa. She is a real trooper. Her dad was looking down on her, smiling and kvelling. (reaping joy)
Fox definitely took a look at the 3 productions that NBC did, took note of all their mistakes, and did the opposite. Three shows they did and could not get it right, not even when they were up at bat with The Wiz. It SO needed an audience.
Bravo to FOX, they set the bar really high tonight. A big Mazel Tov to all involved.

I agree. No one seems to have figured out how to direct the book part of these live musicals. Jokes fall flat -- or the actors don't seem to know when they're delivering them. Actors don't seem to connect with one another. I don't fault the actors. They just aren't given the direction or time to make their scenes work, time their lines or develop much chemistry -- or even physical comedy with each other. But all in all, this one was a success
"
I really didn't miss the audiences during the jokes. They were so well-integrated in all the other scenes that I thought it was fine for them not to be around for the dialogue.
I finished watching this about 15 minutes ago. (I started watching it off my DVR while it was in process ... I detest commercials!)
Well done indeed! NBC should take lessons from Fox on these live musicals!
Note to Mario: The line shoukd have been "National Bandstand", not "American Bandstand".
