Adrianne W and Joaquina Kalukango? Might be a bit young but seems to fit
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Is there ANY world in which Patti would do like 8 weeks in this production?
“Talked to” is always different than “in negotiations.” A lot of people are offered parts. Bernadette was offered the part when the Broadway move was first underway.
None of the names mentioned here are money people though, if Bareilles is indeed leaving. Merely casting solid MT actors might not be enough.
I think it’s the specific combo of actors plus Sara B that have made this such a success. I do wonder how much money is involved. 8 weeks isn’t a longtime to turn a profit.

I mean, we shall see when the casting announcement comes. It’s not like when CHICAGO took its foothold in 1996. They really have to play their cards correctly if they want this to have some life. I do think it has the potential to run a little while since the demand is there, but we shall see who they cast. Some of the roles certainly don’t need a major singer to get by. If it keeps the show going, some of the actors might be allowed to split the role (like Sara B and another theatre actress as Bakers Wife
I feel like Gaten Matarazzo as Jack would be a good star casting, especially hot off Stranger Things and DEH.

Good guess!
and someone guess Patti and that’s a no.. but perhaps one of her costars"
I actually saw your TikTok right after I posted about Renée. The costar you mentioned is...unexpected? I would think they'd try to keep casting women of color in the role.

I’ve heard Katrina’s Last Midnight and it’s close to definitive ! She did it at a show with JRB and Sondheim and Sondheim pushed her for Bobbie after seeing her sing it!
"Where is this video of Katrina singing Last Midnight?"
It's audio on Twitter. Since it was a concert, I don't know if it's technically a bootleg, so I won't post the link, but if you google "Katrina Lenk Last Midnight" it comes right up as a search result, under the Twitter account "Katrina Lenk Daily."
I love Katrina’s LM. By all accounts, Sondheim was a big fan of her. If she were performing decades ago, she easily could’ve been a Sondheim muse, like Bernadette. I’d love to see her Witch.
I would DIE for Katrina as the witch, although my wallet needs a break after Company.
Yes Sondheim absolutely loved her because she is an actor first. Her version of Not While I'm Around is absolutely sublime and my favorite version of it. I agree she would have been a Sondheim muse if she were a bit older.
"This table, he is over one hundred years old. If I could, I would take an old gramophone needle and run it along the surface of the wood. To hear the music of the voices. All that was said." - Doug Wright, I Am My Own Wife

Will all depend on how well the new cast sells. But fwiw the lead producer on New York, New York is the same lead producer as Piano Lesson, so it’s safe to say they may be open to another theater swap if the price is right.
