Can we at least wait for the damn thing to actually transfer before we start debating who is going to win the damn Tony!
Are you new here?
And haven't people been saying Bernadette was going to win a Tony since the production was announced?
When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain.

In regards to Maxwell vs. Peters at next year's Tonys (since wild speculation is such fun), if they get a big name for Ben, they can bill Bernadette and whoever the Ben is over the title, and then Bernadette would be in the lead category and not in competition with Maxwell in featured. I'd love to see them both win.
"Art, in itself, is an attempt to bring order out of chaos."-Stephen Sondheim
But isn't it necessarily the case that if your name is not above the title, unless you petition otherwise, you can only get a featured nomination?
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
Has anyone else heard that Maxwell may not be able to do the Broadway production because of a previous obligation? Rumor has it that Donna Murphy is free though. Any truth here?
"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I really think it's premature for us to prognosticate a Bernadette win at the Tonys. Elena Roger is supposedly really good and could give her a run for her money. And Laura Osnes in Bonnie and Clyde. Just saying... As for Jan Maxwell, if she is unavailable (and the jury's still out on that), I personally would like a cast with two of the top Sondheim interpreters out there (Bernadette Peters and Donna Murphy). That would be amazing. Updated On: 6/17/11 at 07:55 AM
Jordan... if what you propose were to be added to Follies:
"...I think that it should now take place in a theater that has been turned into a roller skating rink set for demolition and at the same time the story is going on, a mother and her estranged daughter can come to terms with their relationship as well."
Do you think that maybe the following casting would be possible: Chita Rivera as Sally Liza Minnelli as Phyllis Jason Alexander as Buddy or Ben? probably Buddy
Only problem is that Chita would want to be Liza and Liza would want to be Chita.
Most importantly the role of Hattie should be played by Bette White. Any interested in starting a Facebook campaign for Bette White as Hattie?
As much as we on this board would like to see some changes, Do Not expect any major changes (except Lavin). Maxwell WILL make the transfer (and most likely, so will the rest of the cast), I would LOVE a new more interesting set, but except for fitting it into the Marquis, I don't see that happrning either. It took them till the last week of the run to raise the 4 or 5 million (my guess) to move the show, so I don't see them spending any (extra) money.
Maybe if we picket, they will restage LUCY AND JESSIE!
Bernadette will do it if the price is right and Sondheim begs Jan will do it if the timing is right and she gets a Tony nom Lorna is waiting in the wings Elaine Paige might do it if British Equity extends her work visa Linda Lavin won't do it, not even if a Tony is attached Elaine Stritch will only do it if Steve writes an extra verse for Broadway Baby and she gets extra compensation for being diabetic Angela will do it if Betty White and Georgia Engel do it as well Karen Ziemba is sitting by the phone Donna Murphy is ticked off that she wasn't on the "A" list Toni Collette will do it if the producers will get a restraining order against Mandy Patinkin. He can't be within 3 miles of the theater. Liza has agreed to be in the audience on opening night, but only if Lorna is actually in the show and not just an understudy. And Patti LuPone, Debra Monk, Chita Rivera, Andrea McArdle, Kristen Chenoweth and Debbie Allen are all planning their own show that will be bigger than Follies ever thought about being.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
I'd love to see this production extend and perhaps transfer to another theater if necessary! Congratulations to the cast, hope this own succeeds! Good Lord knows the Marquis needs it!

Jan's other show is supposed to end July 31. If this is the right date, I would assume Jan was able to get out of the other show. I highly doubt this transfer will happen without her.
Also, other then technical and dress rehearsals, she could theoretically rehearse FOLLIES during the day (considering it's a transfer they might not even have many) and do her show at night? Or is it out of the city?
"Oh look at the time, three more intelligent plays just closed and THE ADDAMS FAMILY made another million dollars" -Jackie Hoffman, Broadway.com Audience Awards
Maybe Jan got out of that one performance on the 31st...or FOLLIES might have an unusual schedule with a Sunday night show etc...

GOD, I would love for this to be true. Starting July 31? Music to my ears!!!
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

What's the stage (and house) size of the Marquis in comparison to the Eisenhower? Larger or smaller? I know the stage (and pit) at the Neil Simon were smaller than that of the Eisenhower when Ragtime transferred.
