How does it usually go when performers have planned days off? Can it turn into other, surrounding days off, too? Am I best to stay away then and look for another date?"
Valid point.
I just assumed that there are known trends surrounding performers and their planned days off.
But, I get your point.
No offense meant -- but how can you expect anyone (including Lea herself) to know the answer to what might happen more than 6 months from now? Might she wake up that morning and have a scratchy throat? Maybe?? Buy a ticket for when you want to go -- and if she's out and she knows (and the show announces) in advance, you can switch dates -- and if you show up at the theatre and see signs up that she's out that day, you can get a refund.

That was a mess! I got the unending spinning wheel when trying to select tickets more than once and even got as far as putting my credit card in to buy seats once and then it didn't go through. Finally purchased tickets over the phone. Telecharge really needs to totally overhaul its system.

Someone just told me a little while ago that the day off in January is her husband's birthday so I think it will be just that day and you could safely book either side of that day.
The days off she has in December (Sunday 14th and Tuesday 16th) are early in Hannukah so that's likely related to that given both she and her husband are Jewish (yes I know she was raised Catholic as her mum is Catholic but her Dad is Jewish).
After spending 4 hours on the presale - timing out, security codes NOT being sent to my phone or email before Telecharge told me to start over, freezing, this and that I finally got tickets for Nov 1, 730PM. I wanted to come well before Christmas hotel rates kicked in, but now that I got my tickets, am seeing the hotel rates are insane. I guess I will just fly in Saturday morning, then out on Sunday morning. I suppose I will stay near the airport. Other thought -- is it a hassle to train in from Jersey City (I know about the PATH train). For just 24 hours - with the sole purpose of only to see this show, would you guys stay in Jersey City or just near Laguardia. Hotel rates are insane in the city, and I am unable to pay that. Thoughts and advice? See ya at Chess. They better get it right this time!
Jersey City is extremely accessible to midtown- it's faster to get to than some parts of Manhattan.
You might be running into the problem that some hotels will have a 2 or 3 night minimum stay. I just looked at rates at the place I stayed last Fall on the Upper West Side (Riverside Towers Hotel). That weekend they have a minimum 3 night stay, I guess because Halloween is the Friday? It has some very small inexpensive rooms ok for a single person on a budget, was completely renovated in w023/24, two blocks from Zabar's overlooking the river.

That weekend is not only Halloween but the NYC Marathon. Tons of people in the city for this event - at least there was when I was there on that weekend in 2024. I am avoiding it this year and coming the following weekend in November.

I knows it's nothing in the long run but god does "The Musical" annoy me when there is no source material you're looking to differentiate from. "Chess: the Musical" We can infer that. What the hell else would it be? Chess: The Radio Play.

If I was a random tourist who only wants to see a show because that's what you do when you come to NYC, my guess would be "Chess: The Play". Maybe the producers don't want to loose that potential audience to "a(ny ) Broadway musical" by default.
Seems like they have their marketing machine in motion -- which is great! I keep getting this ad -- kinda mixed on it. I think Lea needs some bratty curls to match her pout in the middle pic.
I’m not sure if the pink works.
I think the pink only doesn't work because of the red, and vice-versa.

Never thought Chess could have worse art than the original Broadway production (and I know it’s likely not permanent) but here we are. Sorry, summer intern.
The pink squares might look better in black with pink text, if they’re insisting on using pink at all.
CHESS title could look great in red. The Musical should be in white.
I think they can afford to lose the 3 top faces. Who needs to see the actors twice?
The hands with the chess pieces make it look like Lea Michele is the monster from Stranger Things, looming behind the squares.
It feels very “let’s do sunset again” like let’s make it sexy and simple font. But it just doesn’t work.

Aesthetically, the pink doesn't work for me but in a weird way it kind of makes the whole thing seem like a Lea Michelle Diva star vehicle and I can always get behind diva worship.

So I'm the only one who likes the promo material so far?
I think the red+pink purple combination is perfect to contrast the black and white main esthetic. Just one color would be too simple and most other color combinations would be too all over the map colorful.
Sacrilegious take: Can I have the whole show as a movie in the style of the promo, with just seven actors and everything that requires an ensemble radically removed? Maybe that would also help to clean up the script.

In this economy, I'm ok with that. As long as the show will be everything we want it to be.
So, we know Danny Strong is reworking the book. He was responsible for the Kennedy Center version in February of 2018 and the Entertainment Community Fund "concert" staging in December 2022. Do we know if there was another workshop or two between 2022 and now? And do we know if there was work done between The Kennedy Center and The Entertainment Community Fund versions? Michael Mayer directed both. There was some self-deprecating comedy directed at the plot in 2022 that sadly may be the only way in, which only added another layer of Oy! to the piece.

Lea, Aaron and Nicholas recently did a 29 hour reading with the creative team working on the book. They talked about this on the red carpet at the Tonys.

Is there any indication when the actual physical box office will open for sales?

I just saw online that there are 4 tickets left to the first preview. Do we think that is accurate, or will they release more the closer it gets?
Were all premium seats actually released when the sales went live? I know for the later dates, after opening, that I was looking at there were premium seats as well as possible obstructed view side seats held back from sale.

Chess the actual game. US citizens/tourists could well get confused thinking its an actual game of chess (ew don't like chess), not a musical (yeh man I like musicals)
I think adding "the musical" is fine for general public clarity. At least we're no longer seeing variations of "a new musical" tacked on to titles and left for years.
