Someone also suggested Audrey in LITTLE SHOP. While that is technically off-Broadway, it makes a hell of a lot more sense than some of the other possibilities.

It’s certainly possible the venue assumed LITTLE SHOP is a Broadway show. Audrey makes a lot of sense, especially given Megan’s long history with the role (almost doing the 2004 national tour, then playing her at the Kennedy Center). My guess is that it’s Audrey or Mrs. Layton. I agree she’d make a great Mary, but I doubt she’s the kind of name they’d be after for the holiday season and going into the January doldrums.

I have it on good authority that she is going to be playing Hwaboon, which is really perfect casting.

The OH, MARY model seems to be that they get their most experimental casting during the low periods because it usually comes after a blockbuster run that rakes in a s#!+ ton of money.
Ex: Betty Gilpin after Cole #1, JCM after Jane/Jinkx #2, Meg Stalter after Maya.
Presumably, Bowen’s successor will probably be a Mary that’s an assured success (Jane or maybe even Maya) for 6-8 weeks, and then go into whoever they have planned waiting in the wings.

This. There's literally nothing except Mary that would warrant cancelling tour dates - where she does very well, thank you - to come back as a replacement.

I had such high hopes that HwaBoon was going to beat Marian Seldes’ record for most consecutive performances without a day off.
