What site do you think you're on?! I never ever saw them do anything like that, once...
This isn't a seating question. I got a survey in my email today from Moulin Rouge! The Musical (survey@moulinrougemusical.com) asking various demographic and marketing questions, plus providing an area to say or ask anything. So I discussed the steep pricing and asked them to confirm there are no obstructed views as per their website, because I heard from people on BroadwayWorld that there were.

Get a grip Hilda--did you REALLY think I was being serious? or maybe you were agreeing with me, and just wishing that the Mods would do that too.
It was just my way of saying-----could we please get back to the topic.

I also got a survey (Monday?) and in the final comments section, I copied and pasted my comments on seating from my initial post. Of course, always better to lodge complaints directly rather than just bitching to friends. (which can still have value if it keeps them from repeating one's mistake).
...and, Sally, in my case, I specifically mentioned that they were not marked obstructed when I purchased them during initial presale (and that I didn't blame them for that, considering when it occurred). To my knowledge, most people who mentioned that it hadn't been posted also said that they bought them before previews started.
In any event, I think it's a valid point to discuss. But at a certain point that horse is dead. Hopefully the producers will get word of the hubbub and take some measures to mitigate the problem (to the degree that they can at this point) to stanch complaints. Which, at this point, I'm certain will be out there, even if we're all over it here.
...and I've got to assume that if that large a portion of the seating is selling at discounts, that's got to be a concern of the producers.
Was there tonight— can’t really comment on seat selection (snagged a center orchestra row N yesterday at discounted rate off or Ticketmaster). All I have to say is that the show is in INCREDIBLE shape. As a big fan of the film, I thought it expanded on a lot of the film’s motifs and included enough of the film’s big moments. The Elephant Love Medley is reworked but it is fresh and includes a lot of interesting snippets. The overall production is sublime— the theatre itself is worthy of a few Tony’s. Both lead performances are impactful (especially Tveit), and the jukebox-iness of the score works especially well in Act II. The “death scene” also works quite well, and the finale adds enough buffer between it and the mega-mix encore (which is quite fun). Roxeanne and Come What May are especially powerful, and the Act II opener is legitimately a show-stopper (absolutely insane mash-up, and for an Act II opener it actually provides plot!). It takes a few songs in to get what they’re going for (opening number is MASSIVE but felt a bit empty), but once the audience caught on, it worked extremely well (Shut Up And Dance is probably the first hint of something brilliant). I know that Firework has been lambasted left and right here but it was one of the first big cheers tonight and I heard zero laughter. It’s previews so who knows if they’ve made any adjustments or not.
This bad boy is going to run for years and years.
For what it’s worth: Timbers was sitting on the aisle on row N, and Shirley MacLaine was in the audience (also row N).
I stopped following the Boston thread at some point. Has Come What May in this production been moved to replicate that moment in the movie or is it still sung at some other time?
For the movie fanatics out there, as far as what to expect from this show (going into previews...and beyond), I invite you to read this Insta post from @dougiedancerpiper.
Looking through pictures on instagram, it looks like what is obstructed from most seats is that little T shaped stage projecting out from the main stage. It looks like it worked fine for the theatre in Boston, but not this theatre. They should just get rid of it.
This looks more like a Vegas style show, than a B-way musical. Just from what I see on instagram.
This is possibly the most inane comment I’ve ever read on this board.
Im paraphrasing...
“I don’t know anything about this show, but from the pictures on Instagram, they should just close it and move it to Vegas”.
OMFG
I mean... What’s the point of this thread anymore? I logged on to see what people were saying about the show after they’d seen it. Not about speculation based on some pictures someone saw. I’m interested in seeing it so I’m interested in actual comments, people’s opinions based on how they felt after seeing the show. Is that naive of me?

I just love the fact that you're a judging the quality of a show that you haven't seen based on Instagram pictures.

*Taking my ball and going home. Hrumph*"
PREACH!!! (And stand by for the "But that's not what I meant by my Vegas remark". Foul, angry people. And yet no shortage of raves on social from people who were actually there.
My comments re the show are on the Boston thread. Suffice it to say, attending the show on Broadway 7/17. Think my companion will go crazy over the production. In a good way.
In Boston I loved the first act and was less enthused over act two. Age disparity between the leads bothered me. Tam Mutu's count was indeed sexy and in great voice. Production design was overwhelmingly beautiful.
Final word on seating: you pays yur money and you takes yur chance. Please quit yur kvetching and just go to the damn show.

They have a few lines in there now about how old Satine is which implies she’s older than Christian, which makes the age gap work. I’m interested to see if they change those when Ashley Loren and Amber Ardolino go on.

Well it does look more like Vegas quality with the way they have decked out the theatre, instead of just being so cheap looking like a lot of b-way shows. It reminds me of the immersive quality of the Ka theatre in the MGM Grand where you immediately walk into another world.
Also, when I bought my ticket for Moulin Rouge before it opened, I used the viewfromyourseat site to try to decide on where I wanted to be & how much I was willing to pay. Of course all the pics of the Hirchfeld were from Kinky Boots. Now seeing comparable pics on Instagram, with the new set, gives a better idea of what you can see. It looks like most of the Mezz can't see the little extra t-shaped stage. I still am not willing to pay $299 for closer seats.

That's still seven years age difference. However comma Tan Mutu and Aaron are only one year apart and I have no objection to Karen and Tam's pairing. Guess it comes down to chemistry for me. Aaron is "cursed" with youthful looks and Tam looks more mature for his age. More heat between him and Karen. Perhaps my opinion will change upon a second viewing.
Lest anyone think I'm on some ageist soapbox, I'm 71 and my four husbands are each 50. "Husband" is an honorary title based on longevity and enthusiasm. They appreciate that I'm -as I am wont to say- "younger than springtime, older than dirt" . [note theatre refrrence].

This is why The show does not work for me. Tam Mutu is miscast. He overplays the sexiness and you leave thinking Satine should be with the Duke. Karen and Aaron’s pairing would be more believable if they recast the Duke. They need to do this immediately if this show is to have any longevity. You need to invest in Aaron and Karen but you can’t while they have a credible rival that most women and men would choose.
2. I fail to see how so many people feel thats WHY he would be chosen. She doesnt LOVE him.
3. The Duke doesnt LOVE her, he lusts for her - Satine has had that...and often. It is meaningless to her.
4. He's the equivalent of every entitled hs athlete that gets away with rape, a "lax-bro" for those of you familiar with the term. (I have no idea if that phrase is known beyond my community)

I caught the show on Wednesday evening. It's essentially the Vegas-Trash highlights version of the film, without any of the movie's brilliance, richness of tone or elements of true pathos. I think if you went to Vegas, did Absinthe, went to see ROCK OF AGES and somehow stumbled into the bar at the Paris hotel at 2:00 AM, that would pretty well encapsulate the experience of MOULIN ROUGE on Broadway.
Excess is the name of the evening - from the design to the augmented score, which for some reason now includes snippets of every pop hit of the last decade squeezed into every available nook and cranny. It reminded me of those cracked out HOOKED ON CLASSICS tapes we used to do exercise to in the 1980s.
Now this said, I had a fabulous time watching the show, and much of my reservations - much like the experience of visiting a whorehouse - came the next morning, when I realized the extent of what I had subjected myself to.
The cast works their ass off. The two leads are mismatched, despite being extraordinary performers in their own right. I think its the best work Aaron Tveit has ever done (I saw those real tears pouring down your cheeks in "Roxanne," Aaron) and Karen Olivo's gifts as a singer and actress almost - almost make you forget how simply miscast she is as a fragile consumptive courtesan.
Tommy Tune was sitting across from me and I couldn't help but wonder not only what he thought, but what that genius mind would could have done with this material once upon a time.
I think the show will be a hit, but such an expensive one to run, that I think that will gradually chip away at the musical's Broadway viability. I'd predict a three year run.
A bit of a missed opportunity; I think the musical could have been something really special if they had embraced the dark and the light and the weird and unexpected of the film musical.
