Saw the show in Boston and loved it! I read in an article that they had SRO for Broadway and I was wondering if anyone could report on that? I definitely wouldn't mind getting up early to get tickets haha
SRO doesn't normally happen until after opening. That's often where the creative team watches the show.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?

First time at that theatre and don't remember seeing that much room for SRO...not sure how many people they can accommodate.

I did standing room for Kinky Boots - the Hirschfeld only accoms SRO at the back of house left, and there's only like 6 slots. The worst part is the bar behind the last row of seats is very low, so you can't really lean on it, forcing you stand straight up the entire show. Wouldn't want to do it again.
I did SRO for Kinky Boots three days after throwing out my back. It was rough. But I still had a good time, especially for $29. If my back hadn’t been so jacked up, I think it would’ve been fine.
Why is everyone on these boards to cheap to buy a good first Ten Rows Center Orchestra Seat ? Every post is about someone who was extreme side and couldn't see and wants a refund, another genius buys Mezzanine Row K for $99.00 and missed a lot of the show, Another Genius wants to Stand all night in the back, Cmon people, you spend your money on Booze, Drugs, Strip Clubs, lay down a few C notes and see a good show from a good seat. Heres the Bottom Line, The show is Good, its going to be a hit, Enough Said

People often see a bunch of shows on one trip. Most can’t afford to spend $400+ on every or even one show. I know that most shows don’t run that much, but I do find Moulin Rouge’s pricing ridiculous. Yes, people are paying it. I’ve paid that much before (very, very rarely) for other shows, but as I was treating my friend to her ticket, there was no way I could afford that with the other expenses I have for the trip. Our tickets in left mezzanine Row K were $179 each before fees. What I hope isn’t true is that our seats are limited view. At least we didn’t pay $300+ each for limited view seats as some may have. That seems inexcusable especially since the tickets weren’t marked that way upon purchase. Any time I’ve paid that much I’ve had very good to awesome seats.
I totally get his point, what is the point of paying a fortune to see a show if you are missing half the show?
The only reason they’ve been able to charge such ridiculous prices is because people are foolishly paying them no questions asked.
They’d soon drop if people refused to pay them and if not surely it wouldn’t kill you to wait a while until they are forced to drop them or close out of greed.
It is very expensive to mount many of these productions- and so many lose money- I have no problem paying up for a ticket in a great location- but I do have a problem with resale tickets- and Ticketmaster selling to the bots who buy up the best seats in the house and then charge ridiculous prices for the same seats. That should be against the law, in my opinion.
I saw this show in Boston and, by and large, I was entertained. Tveit and Olivio were quite good (Tveit especially) and the production design was terrific. Where I part company is that the jukebox nature of the show detracted when it should have added (same as the film) so it doesn't amount to as much as it should.
Regarding seats, for me, it's a question of quality over quantity. At 60, I am past the point where I can happily enjoy a show I can't see well. I was okay with it when I was younger, but not now.
I paid for premium seats for a group to see Hello, Dolly! and that was so expensive I said never again would I pay such outrageous prices! Then Network came along... and I splurged for onstage seats during previews and I said, really, this time I mean it, never again! Now Moulin Rouge is here... and here we go.... in the Diamond Circle.
I've had to face the fact I am willing to pay more for good seats for a show I really want to see. For me, that means less shows. I still haven't seen Hamilton, and Hadestown isn't on my list, both shows I would really like to see.
Between a hotel, meals and tickets for 2 people I easily spend 1000 bucks each time I come to the city - or more.
I dont think Im being cheap....esp since I come to the city 10 times a year.
And really....is it asking too much to be able to see the show you are paying for? No matter where your seats are. A little obstruction is nothing to complain over...IF seats are marked as such before purchase.
If I only went to the city one a year or less, sure, I might be willing to cough up the money to buy premium seating. Nah...i wouldnt. Its obnoxious to spend that kind of money on entertainment.

Since I didn't pay premium prices for a show before The Producers started the pricing hike, I've never paid premium for a show since. I never paid for scalper tickets, either. For the price of a premium seat to one show, I can see 2-3 shows paying prices I feel are acceptable. And I don't complain about the view unless I wind up with an obstructed view that wasn't disclosed when I purchased the ticket.
Another Genius wants to Stand all night in the back
I saw tons of shows with standing room tickets when it was all I could afford or all that was available. It's not all night. It's 2-3 hours, tops. You pay significantly less than the people sitting down right in front of you. It's smart because it's economical.
Cmon people, you spend your money on Booze, Drugs, Strip Clubs, lay down a few C notes and see a good show from a good seat.
Oh, I get it now. You're just an awful person.
Heres the Bottom Line, The show is Good, its going to be a hit, Enough Said
"Enough Said" always means the opposite, especially when you're just stating your opinion. It's like if I were to say, for example, "You're an arrogant, smug and shallow idiot who can't reason an idea any further than Kim Kardashian's g-string can unwedge itself from her crack. Enough said." See how that works?

thank you for posting this picture! this board has jumped the shark for days now regarding the view. and other topics...smh.
people are missing the point of this show, which is - the MAIN, core part of the show which is about 95% of the show...takes part on the CENTER OF THE STAGE. it will NOT be partial view. the only time small parts of the show you may have to lean forward is when a few performers move forward towards the orchestra, as you can see from this picture. majority of the show takes place on the core, main section of the stage, which will not be an impeded view. this is a spectacular show, imo. as i said im my previous review. and yes, having to lean forward and missing a few small things might be a little annoying, but you will leave the theater extremely satisfied with the show, that you will quickly forget that you had to lean forward a few times. I sat in the rear center Mezz, Row P.
As far as ticket prices go I do agree it's insanely high ---- especially for previews! But hey, if they can sell tix at those prices then good for them!
For me, I live in NYC and I always do SRO or rush (general or lottery) first whenever I see a show. If I didn't love it, then so be it. If and only if I love the show, then I'll splurge and buy the seat I really want to see it in again (yes for my first viewing I go to the theater early when it opens and check out seats in the orchestra or mezz to see legroom, sightlines, etc.)

I agree about this thread jumping the shark. I understand the issue about the side orchestra seats, which are truly partial view, but this panic about the mezzanine is unnecessary. From what I remember in Boston, the top of the "T" at the end of the runway is mainly cosmetic, and probably designed just to enclose the table seating. I can't remember anything significant happening there, other than some ensemble dancing. I would be far more concerned about sitting in the orchestra under the mezzanine overhang, and not being able to see the full proscenium and the scenic elements outside of the stage (windmill, elephant, ceiling).
I am so glad I caught this show in Boston, especially since it sounds like not much has changed. I enjoyed it quite a bit but my main issue was that the first 15 minutes set the bar SO HIGH and the rest of the show fails to meet that standard.
"Observe how bravely I conceal this dreadful dreadful shame I feel."
Thanks all who have commented this morning, alleviating most of my concerns about the view from our mezzanine seats on September 28th. Regardless, I’m not paying $440+ ($220 each) to move our seats from Row K to Row G.
Regarding Standing Room, on my first trips I saw many shows via SRO because I was on a limited budget - Once, The Book of Mormon, Kinky Boots, The Color Purple - and I don’t regret it in the least.
And now, hopefully, back to hearing more about the show itself.
