Update-it’s a white power, Neo-nazi group"
I saw some like it hot this evening and was yelled at by one of these crazy people while waking home. True to form, they were absolutely smashed and high and driving a broken down used car from the 90s, so them screaming “white power” at me was just pitiful.

On the bus on the way home from the show now, I think it’s in pretty good shape. I did not see it at NYCC but as everyone stated Mikaela runs away with the show. Her voice magnificently fills the space. That said I thought Ben did a great job as well. I think Paul Alexander Nolan and Howard McGillen were the supporting standouts. I know the show mostly from the OBC-I find the choice of cutting the Judge’s song sorta weird-I like the song they have in its place but I think both could have existed. I also think cutting Big News really reduces the feeling of the presses involvement in the case which seems a bit confusing. I didn’t love the scenic design but thought it was adequate. The ensemble as a whole I think really shines. There was unending applause after curtain call-we wanted another ovation we didn’t get.
Can confirm that's exactly what they were shouting. Haven't seen that (ironically) since leaving the South. Brought me back to my Jewish childhood. *sigh*
But the show - let's focus on this GLORIOUS God-send of a revival. Everything is perfect and the City Center cast has only gotten stronger in their roles. Just a perfect evening.

How does it sound with the reduced orchestra ?

I think PARADE and LEOPOLDSTADT cater to the similar audiences. Given how LEOPOLDSTADT has flourished thanks to word of mouth, perhaps PARADE will have a similar outcome if word of mouth is positive and if it gets good reviews.
I say front row rear mezz and the view was excellent. The mezz is the optimal spot for this show.
It’s a really glorious evening at the theatre. A masterpiece of a show that is expertly performed by a cast that works so cohesively it feels like they’ve been running for months. Micaela is the beating heart of the show and presents a youthful, human, and intelligent Lucille. Her voice has so many colors and shades to it, and when she opens up and lets it soar it’s truly astounding. If she was great at City Center (she was), she’s somehow even better. And I’d be thrilled to hear her name on Tony night.
Ben Platt feels tailor made for this role. It plays to his strengths. He sings like a dream and he works so well with Micaela.
Special shout-out to Alex Joseph Grayson who all but stops the show with “That’s What He Said.” Would not be surprised if the warm audience reception carries him to a Tony nomination.
Arden’s direction feels more focused and clearer than at City Center, and the performances he’s gotten out of the cast are of such a high caliber it feels like a special event getting to witness it.
Good on him for speaking up! And the cast's safety is super important, so I could see good reason for them all to avoid the stage door at least until opening night if this behavior continues
If anyone happened to sit front Center orchestra (within first 5 rows) - how was it? Haha. At this point wondering whether I should beg telecharge to let me swap. It seems a bit odd for the producers to charge so much for non desirable seats.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000
I rushed this yesterday for the opening preview. I was first in line. I got Mezz Row B 25/27 and the people behind me got Mezz Row A 25/27. I’ll just say… I’m glad that I saw the NYCC performance so I took the very last seat, 27, in the row. I could miss things and know what happened. A speaker 100% blocks the desk where Leo sits for a majority of the trial and the boxes blocks Lucille so you can only see her bob. Same with the judge. Totally blocked so when he comes back in Act 2 for his song… my partner had no idea who that was.
Now, these were marked as partial, but I was still a little bit disappointed for my partner who hadn’t seen the show and couldn’t see a few parts that I thought were at least somewhat relevant. The main stage where most of the action is still in view though so you can still see 90% of the show.

Seen what exactly? I'm confused by everything going on. I'm from the South and I've been bothered more in NYC than I ever did growing up.

Seen that kind of anger towards the Jews. I’m glad you’ve always felt safe in NYC. So have I. But then again, I’ve never seen a Klan rally down the street from my home here, either. Or had a friends parents here in the city say I couldn’t come to their birthday party because…you know. Or had a classroom full of kids laugh at me and point to their nose when the teacher trotted me up each year to tell the story of Hanukkah (because I was so informed about it at the age of 8) and then call me “Jeweystein” until they were suspended and had to apologize in front of the entire class, which was more embarrassing than anything else. Or worry about synagogue bombing warnings on a “not this AGAIN” regular basis here, like when I grew up. Oh - and that synagogue now hires private police security since bomb threats are a much more common occurrence.
So yes, I’m VERY glad you growing up in the 90s (I’m guessing) was different then my growing up in the early 80s and you had a different experience in a different state and community - and I in NO WAY say that in any sort of condescending manner, I’m genuinely happy. I’m also not saying my childhood was awful in any way but this hatred for us absolutely reared its ugly head and has stuck with me my entire life.
Anyways, back to the show. I hope there’s a cast recording.
I did actually grow up in a very inclusive part of the South given the different job opportunities. But, what I actually said was that I've been harassed more in NYC and hate crimed far more in NYC than ever growing up in South. But yes, back to show!

I would be genuinely shocked if there's not a cast recording
