I never got to see her perform, but this indeed hits hard. How hard for Danny to have this unimaginable pain. It would be devastating regardless, but then especially at this time of year which means the holidays will always be paired with this loss. So much loss this year in so many forms. Okay, I’m going to go cry now.
I got to see her onstage only once - I went for a 2nd viewing of Fun Home just to see her, and she was wonderful. A warmer, less biting take on the role of Helen than Kuhn's, but equally heartbreaking.
What a sad way to go into the holidays. I haven't had a tear in my eye for someone I didn't know since the death of Marin Mazzie. I'm glad I got to see her so many times from "She Loves Me" at Reprise in L.A., then "The Music Man", "Nine", "Where's Charley?", "Death Takes a Holiday" (wishing it had in this case) and "Cinderella". There really was music in her to paraphrase the beautiful Richard Rodgers/Oscar Hammerstein song she sang in "Cinderella". The sound of music is a little dimmer today.
Agreeing with everyone on this thread that this one hurts. One of my favorite Broadway performers. My introduction to her was in the 1994 revival of SHOW BOAT opposite Marc Jacoby with a stellar cast that included John McMartin, Elaine Stritch and Lonette McKee. I saw her next in THE SOUND OF MUSIC, THE MUSIC MAN and MARY POPPINS. She will deeply, deeply missed.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
Glad she didn't suffer long. I know a family who's father passed away from ALS after about 5-6 years. He lost his voice and mobiility the year after he got diagnosed. Left behind 3 kids under 15. I know she was still able to sing as of a few months ago.
This is really so heartbreaking. I still can't believe we're losing such brilliant talents and graceful ladies like her Marin from our lives. And to their partners and families... it's just so damn sad.
I am still haunted by her Days and Days performance from her Fun Home stint. It was glorious.

What a tremendous loss. 2020 just won’t stop. When I was an oblivious child I got to see Mary Poppins on broadway. It wasn’t until years later when I looked at my “showbill” that I knew how lucky I was I got to see Rebecca Luker perform live on stage. RIP. My heart goes out to Danny Burstein.
In our millions, in our billions, we are most powerful when we stand together. TW4C unwaveringly joins the worldwide masses, for we know our liberation is inseparably bound.

She was on my short list of people I wanted to see onstage. As soon as I found out she was in "Death Takes A Holiday" I grabbed a ticket. I also wanted to see the show itself but was over the moon that I was finally getting to see her live. It turned into an extra special night as I saw her and my seat was next to Maury Yeston. So glad I got to see her. May she rest in peace.
Such awful news, there's really nothing more to say. Danny and Rebecca did a wonderful interview on Fresh Air back in October that's very worth listening to if you didn't catch it when it aired. You really get a sense of them as people and the love they have for each other and for their art/craft.

Ooooooooof. That was really hard to get through without completely falling to pieces. My heart is broken for her here and for her passing. Sending love to Danny and her family.
Absolutely dreadful news. You had the passing of Marin Mazzie, a couple year back, more recently Nick Cordero and now Rebecca Luker, all died way too young. God life can be so cruel.
I have the same story as Jorge... I saw Mary Poppins all those years ago and had no idea I was seeing Luker on stage. What a treasure, she will be missed. All the love in the world to Danny and his children.
