This rumor has been around for almost 2 years. It first started right before "A Star Is Born" was released. Very strange mindset that because Lady Gaga did the same role that Barbra did in STAR, that's she's somehow, "supposed" to do other Barbra roles. Makes no sense at all.

SNL, but she’s always had a good sense of humor. She is a fantastic character actress.

You do realize A Star Is Born has a long history that started way before Barbra ever did it? People are suggesting Gaga for Funny Girl because of her look, amazing vocal ability, and star quality. It has nothing to do with Barbra or “Barbra roles.”
Yes, I am very aware of the history of STAR. The pic that BrodyFosse posted, I remember when it first went online a number of years ago. So many were convinced that it must have meant that Barbra & Lady Gaga were going to do an album together, a movie together, etc. It was a dinner party with John Travolta, his wife Kelly, Ryan Murphy and LG. Nothing more.
Then the same people who insist that it was to have meant something, get mad when nothing happened. I just don't understand that way of thinking. Ha, ha.
The more I read about this the more I wonder if they’ll do ala Bette in dolly Have Gaga announced then for one or two shows a week and for her two week vacations have a big broadway name like Idina or Jesse mueller

I'd rather see her in a revival of "Gypsy," where I think she has the allure and spirit for Rose. Honestly, it would be just as big as her doing "Funny Girl," and a better fit.(Realistically, she's one of four Broadway names who would do the next production. Her, Donna, Audra, or Sutton.)
Lots of great ideas in this thread: Shoshana Bean, Lindsay Mendez, Jessie Mueller. I'll also throw in Annaleigh Ashford and Christina Bianco to the mix. Ariel Sta'chel or Santino Fontana as Arnstein. Unless you get someone like Gaga, I think you'd need to set this up at a nonprofit or really stack the cast with Broadway names. The recent revivals of "Fiddler" and "Carousel" weren't huge financial wins."
Christina Bianco--yes! I saw a video of her playing Fanny in London before the pandemic,or maybe it was a concert, but she was great. She could sing the score."
Someone earlier asked if there’s evidence that Gaga can do funny. Is there evidence that Idina can do it? I only see her as intense or a diva. Rent? Wicked? Aida? If/Then? Frozen? Enchanted? Glee? Can’t think of anything that she’s made me laugh in. I think Skintight was supposed to be funny, but I didn’t laugh.
Barbra had to work on her humor for the role, but I do like someone’s previous suggestion of Annaleigh Ashford. Let’s go with someone who has some natural goofiness.

I recall Idina had a bunch of good/solid one-liners throughout If/Then. The cast recording was not out yet when I saw it, so "What the F**k?" really took me by surprise. I think Elizabeth would have to be her most humorous role thus far, blending beautifully with her vulnerable side.
Idina is VERY funny in concert. She typically plays roles that don’t allow for much humor, but she has great timing for sure.

She played the role in Paris, not London."
Oops. Right continent,wrong country."
England isn't on "The Continent". It's an Island.

I give up. Good night, everyone. Maybe I'll be more alert tomorrow.

I raised the query about Gaga’s humor. I agree with you about Idina. I’ve never really found her funny either. Not in the goofy comedienne way, anyway. I don’t think people are really calling for her to play the role, though. Her name is just the rumored.

There are many articles discussing it. This revival rumor was big news a couple years back, however before a couple weeks ago or so, the news about this revival was from like mid-late 2018 (I may be wrong but it’d what I remember). I had noticed this late last year and had assumed that it fell through given that there were no recent articles about it, however I think that if it is gaining some traction again, it may be possible.
While I’d love to see Gaga as Fanny, I honestly really wanna know how a colorblind casting of Jennifer Hudson as Fanny would go down. I’d love to see it.

As was seen with the revival of THE COLOR PURPLE, Hudson isn’t a good enough actress even for a featured role. No way in hell could she carry an entire show. She’s a film actress. That’s where she learned her acting technique: in fragments. It’s an industry known secret her film acting performances are created in editing. She never learned acting technique to sustain a character for a full 2 plus hours. Even her few moments in HAIRSPRAY: Live!, whenever she wasn’t singing, her acting and line readings were disconnected from the rest of the cast. Vocally she’s one powerhouse and can tear the roof off with the songs. FUNNY GIRL is a heavy book show with a few songs. Not the other way around.
