I would love to see Beanie Feldstein do this. Her star is REALLY on the rise, she’s actually Jewish, not “conventionally” beautiful, and actually truly, seriously, funny. Not “musical theatre” funny, but just hilarious in a down to earth way.

There's about a 1% chance Gaga would do this. And if she did, it would likely only be 6 shows a week with a Broadway name as her alternate/standby.

Do you think Shoshanna Bean can be her standby again? :)"
Idina is perfect for Mrs Brice, I mean she does turn 50 this year, so she would be the perfect age to play Fanny's mother. But who will Rosie play and who will play Fanny.

After how much I adored her in My Fair Lady, I will always be heartbroken that I didn’t get to see Lauren Ambrose. I just know she would’ve been sensational.

No one did. It never even went into rehearsals. They pulled the plug shortly after they announced her and Bobby Canavale.
Can they please get Barbra to record the pre-show announcement.

She definitely would. She vocally supported the cancelled 2012 Broadway revival and said she was looking forward to Lauren’s Fanny. Barbra passing the FUNNY GIRL torch.
Idina is very talented, but her age and her voice aren't right for this role. 15 years ago, sure. I'd rather see her in a revival of "Gypsy," where I think she has the allure and spirit for Rose. Honestly, it would be just as big as her doing "Funny Girl," and a better fit. (Realistically, she's one of four Broadway names who would do the next production. Her, Donna, Audra, or Sutton.)
Lots of great ideas in this thread: Shoshana Bean, Lindsay Mendez, Jessie Mueller. I'll also throw in Annaleigh Ashford and Christina Bianco to the mix. Ariel Sta'chel or Santino Fontana as Arnstein. Unless you get someone like Gaga, I think you'd need to set this up at a nonprofit or really stack the cast with Broadway names. The recent revivals of "Fiddler" and "Carousel" weren't huge financial wins.

Yup. I’m aware.

There was nothing in their post to suggest they didn’t know that no one saw a canceled production. It would save you and everyone else time if you attempted to be less obnoxious.

Oh, you and I (and everyone else on here), knows that’s an impossible request. Ain’t gunner happen, bro. I’m a d**k.

Close to a decade ago, I became aware that Funny Girl was going to be presented at the Ahmanson Theatre, and was mad with anticipation. Started making plans to drive up to Los Angeles for a nice weekend of musical theatre. And then, soon after, I learned that it had been cancelled. "Disappointed" would be an understatement. I hope the day comes that I will finally be able to see it on stage. I really don't much care who plays "Fanny," although I am quite partial to Rosie as "Mrs. Brice".

Christina Bianco--yes! I saw a video of her playing Fanny in London before the pandemic,or maybe it was a concert, but she was great. She could sing the score.

She played the role in Paris, not London.
You know I hate to say it, but I think I've kind of come to the conclusion that this score just...doesn't sound that great without Streisand. Why is it these songs sound thrilling in her voice and basically sound...I don't know, kind of like shriek-belting whenever anyone else performs them?
Any star big enough to headline a Broadway revival of FUNNY GIRL deserves (and would do better) having an original new musical written expressly for their talents.

That one benefit concert Seth Rudetsky did a billion years ago proved that Funny Girl was viable as a standalone musical piece even without Striesand. Maybe he should cast the full production.

Don’t you think Sutton would be a knock out? She’s got the quirkiness and the voice.

15 years ago, that was a dream of mine. To be fair, if Idina can do it now, Sutton can do. I know I'd rather see Sutton though.
I adore Sutton but she would be wildly miscast in this.
The only people I can see doing it justice are Jessie Mueller and Lady Gaga.
Australia finally had the courage to cast Fanny with a local, Jill Perryman, who had worked her way from chorus to Star. Sang and acted the role perfectly though personally never enjoyed her People or balads but a brilliant musical comedy comedienne[is that now politically incorrect?.]
There HAS to be brilliant 'nobody' just waiting for her one big chance--be brave producers and search the country, she is out there.
Would LOVE to see Annaleigh Ashford or Micaela Diamond as Fanny. Both have everything the role needs, and more.
Corbin Bleu could be a thrilling Eddie Ryan, too. And I think Santino would be a great choice for Nick. Could also see someone like Joshua Henry being a force in that role.

You got to be kidding. This was a 2002 Actors Fund one-night-only concert staging with 15 different actresses playing Fanny. Some just did book scenes (like Whoopi Goldberg). It was a fun night due to the gimmick. This wasn’t a showcase to the book, etc. It was simply a concert with book scenes.
