I think the reviews will be right down the middle. No raves, no pans, just mediocre/middling notices. The show is safe. It isn’t a revelation. The score is meh, the jokes are meh, the performances, for the most part are very good. Direction…fine, choreography…so so"
You were saying...?
Yup. You sure showed me. The show wasn't for me. Not sure why me voicing my opposition has struck such a nerve. Congratulations, I guess???
Lol. No, you showed yourself. You don’t have to personally like a show to recognize that a wide majority do and recognize that it appeals to people and will probably be treated well by critics. There’s lots of shows i don’t care for but know they’ll get good/great reviews. But I don’t go around saying how, since they’re not my personal taste, they’re going to be destroyed by critics. Because playing those predictions is very likely to make you look silly.
Nope, not at all. Because I was expressing my personal opinion on my personal thoughts on a show and not saying what the critics will say. Wanna try again?
Well, Nobody’s Perfect: Some Like It Hot on Broadway
"It’s easier to note all the ways the show doesn’t do anything wrong than the ways it executes new ideas of its own. There’s only so much you can get from something so on the defensive about its own existence. Everything goes so smoothly that there’s hardly any friction at all—and you need friction to generate heat."
Wow! These reviews are pretty much a producer's dream come true. I'm happy for the show. While I didn't LOVE this as much as some on here and most of the critics, it's still a perfectly solid show.
"There’s nothing quite like the power and the passion of Broadway music. "
hopefully these reviews give the show a much needed box office boost.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
From my perspective, it seems context is everything. It has been a while since we've had a show like this, and critics missed it. It's what they needed right now.
Reminds me a bit of Kimberly Akimbo, which I liked far less than this, that hit people craving a serious new musical that was bighearted and sincere, with notable pedigree.
You saw a PREVIEW performance of the show (as did I). Fine tuning continued and the show the critics saw is probably a different one from what you saw several weeks ago.
Oh Joy, oh rapture. I loved it when I saw it during second week of previews, but the stream of negative reactions on the board made me start wondering if I had been too kind. These reviews, though, just made me buy tickets for a return visit. Sadly, I'm not back in NYC until March, but the wait will be worth it.
Has Angie Schworer’s role been increased since the start of previews? She is now billed as a principal (character is MINNIE). She was in the ensemble when I saw it — had lines/music as a member of the band, but she only stood out to me because I know who she is; I didn’t think her part was any bigger than the other ens ladies.
I don’t believe her part has changed at all since the first preview. But she is one of the most memorable parts of the production so I’m glad she’s getting higher billing.
Agreed -- I'm so happy for her, she deserves the billing, but I would have been confused to see Minnie listed as a principal were it someone I didn't recognize in the role. No significant solo moments... not sure where, but they should have found a moment to let Angie give it some zazz!
