Kennedy Center is pissed SpiderWoman pulled the rights to their hyped production in order to come to broadway. So KC said ok, if you want to play that game, we will send the show we replaced yours with to broadway before your show whether people want it or not *evil villain laugh*
Aw man, thanks for telling us that. No one on BROADWAYWORLD.COM knew that before you said it over and over and over again thousands of times. Good looking out!
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Well that makes no sense whatsoever. Most of the money (which has got to be at least $10-$12M) is coming from the KC. It's a pretty expensive way to "play that game" (whatever that means).
Seems like they're hoping for a "Into the Woods" type hit with well-known Broadway actors playing the leads, which might work if word-of-mouth is good. I mean, Ethan Slater is in the news - not for good reasons - but Ariana Grande coming to the opening could make for some good press.

There was a rumor that Steve Martin was going to play KA. And Hannah waddingham’s name was floated as well."
Yeah that was written in here a lot. someone as big as Steve Martin was realistically never going to happen and Kritzer was always suspected to be playing Lady of the lake. I am more interested to know who these people who got their info from people "in the know" had heard.
In all seriousness, I hope this does really well. God knows we need another hit on 44th street drawing crowds pleased with a spending a great entertaining night at the theater. Huzzah.

Exactly! There would be just as much (if not more) bitching and moaning on these boards if they had cast movie/TV names. People would be OUTRAGED that they replaced solid theatre veterans with "stunt casting"!
Damned if you, damned if you don't..."
Wanting capable comedians and sketch performers in a Broadway revival of a Monty Python show is not the same as casting a Real Housewife in Chicago. One is about elevating material, and the other is about elevating sales.
Most of us are just trying to rationalize the decision making behind transferring a middling revival of a so-so show. The direction and design look largely unchanged, the book and score are unchanged so why would anyone pay Broadway prices for something they've seen done better in NY, and done at the same level in regional theaters across the country?
The entire cast is capable, I have no doubt. But there's nothing exciting or new here, I'm sorry to say.

Interesting. The www.louisarmstrongmusical.com site is still up and connects to atg ticketing site for New Orleans and Ticketmastersite for Chicago. I guess we'll see. Maybe it's being post poned.

Maybe JMI is still doing it, then going back into Spamalot and the projected Broadway run for the Armstrong musical will occur in 2024.
Sorry, not spreading any rumors. I just went to look and it wasn't listed as an upcoming show. Sorry, must have missed it. I do wonder how that schedule will work, but I guess he already knows the show so can be plugged in pretty quick?

I said this above, but it's possible he does the first 2 weeks of the Chicago run of the Armstrong piece, then his understudy takes on the final week. That would give him one week with the SPAM company before previews begin, which isn't a perfect situation, but if most of the company and staging is the same then he could slip right in.

Has he ever demonstrated comedic chops?"
Lancelot has almost no solo singing in the show, so this would be kind of a waste…Anyway, it looks like the producers - if they were indeed courting celebrities - got turned down and had to come crawling back to those godawful Tony winners and nominees <sarcasm>…maybe they are waiting on a “star” for Lancelot, which is a pretty easy role to stunt cast as long as the actor can do silly voices, etc. It can be played by a non-singer.

Well it is a transfer of that production…

I can't speak for everyone else but I was referring to the rampant speculation on this thread before the casting announcements of huge names when it turned out to be just Broadway names. I don't have any interest in this production but in general prefer talented Broadway actors to big names. I just found it funny that it turned out to be the list it did after the names that were thrown out there.
