Looking forward to it! Sutton is one of my fav actresses (along with Steph J Block, Kelli O'hara and Steph D/Abruzzo.
Wow. After seeing the trailers for this show I thought it was going to be a hot mess. I don't ever watch ABC family, but I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed the pilot.
The twist at the end definitely made me want to continue watching.
I was pleasantly surprised to find the pilot available. I love Sutton and Kelly. The pilot suffered the usual "pilot-itis" but I will be watching. Funny and sweet.
Of course of theatre nerds are going to overanalyze Sutton's peformance, but this show is going to be a huge hit for ABC Family. It has tremendous buzz. Sutton will be off the boards for a while.
I watched on "On Demand" earlier this week and really, really liked it. I definitely didn't see the plot twist at the end coming.
Alan Ruck who plays Sutton's husband, is he the actor who was in the national tour of The Producer's? The name rings a bell.

This is why you should know Alan Ruck!
I love Sutton Foster, but how do you spell I-COULDN'T-CARE-LESS?

"Has anyone seen any of the print ads for this show? The only
Ones I have seen have been on the sides of busses. But, they do have a picture of Sutton, and they bill it as "starring Tony Award winner, Sutton
Foster. I find it funny that they think that will get people to watch it."
In NYC advertising a Tony award winning actress headlining your new show is still somewhat relevant advertising. In other cities, not as much, but the New York residents who fall in the typical demographic ABC Family is aiming for will mostly have at least a passing knowledge of Broadway and some of the bigger stars, such as Sutton Foster.
Thanks, Phyllis.
I wasn't expecting to like it, but I thought it was cute and that the part suits Sutton well. I'll keep watching for now. (But goodness, the title is still awful.)
I didn't catch the preview, but just watched it tonight. I, too, really didn't know what to expect and wasn't sure I'd like it, but I happen to love Sutton Foster, so I thought I'd give it a try. I have to say I did enjoy it. I thought Sutton was funny and touching and did have very good chemistry with Kelly Bishop. I'll definitely keep watching for now, too. (And while I can see why they had the plot twist the way it did, I was kind of sorry in a way, as even in his short amount of time on-screen, I grew to like Alan Ruck's character quite a bit. I didn't find him stalker-like, I thought he was sweet.)
Compared to a lot of the dreck I see my teenaged kids watching, I'd be thrilled if they watched something like this for a change.
I was expecting it to be stupid because every other show from ABC Family that I have seen were. But, I really liked it. I will continue to watch it.

I really liked it and will continue watching.
I still can't bring myself to watch a show called Bunheads.

I truly enjoyed the show. Sutton just has a magnetic quality that makes you like her. I liked her relationship with the girls! I hope she sings at some point!
I enjoyed it much more than I expected to, though I like Kelly Bishop in just about anything. Hope they can keep it distinct from Gilmore Girls; the town does seem sort of Stars Hollow West.
You know, considering what passes for decent writing on tv, Bunheads isn't half bad. Okay, the premise wasn't terrific, but as soon as Sutton got going, things picked up, and I can see the possibilities. And any show that features Sutton and the great Kelly Bishop dancing, I am so there.
And if you were a ballet dancer, the title would make perfect sense, so good for them!

I've always thought the Sutton Foster Hype was...over-hyped, though I did see her in "Anything Goes" last summer, and that is a tough role these days. (Compared to the old versions. Heck, when you look at some of the original production footage with Ethel Merman...she doesn't dance, just belts out the songs). So, she does have triple-threat talent, like her or not.
I had forgotten about her getting a pilot until I was in L.A. last week on vacation and there were billboards *everywhere* for "Bunheads." Everywhere. For a Broadway-star-who-got-a-pilot. I was surprised at all the promotion on that coast, especially since some posters here only talk about bus boards in NYC. The title bothers me more than Sutton; I have a cousin who *was* a Joffrey ballerina years ago, and I'd never heard that term before. Is it...legit?
Anyway. For the ABC Family crowd, tackling issues like teen-girl-self-esteem and such, it's very cute, had decent writing and production values, and should do well. Kelly Bishop is awesome. Sutton got lots of the good jokes and delivered them with appropriate timing. The pacing does have a "Gilmore Girls" feel to it, but it's Amy Palladino; as the saying goes, if [the formula] ain't broke, don't fix it. I was pleasantly surprised to see Alan Ruck in an adorable role, and was sad to see that his character seems to have died already. Just when I was glad he was getting work... :)
I liked it more than I thought I would. Bishop is fantastic and Foster charming. I miss new Gilmore Girls episodes so much, so even if parts of the show resemble GG, that's fine by me. Should make for light, breezy Summer TV watching while my favorite shows are away.
The audience is the audience for The Gilmore Girls.
The phrase has been around forever. It was first used to decribe librarians and then used to describe female ballet dancers. (But usually dancers more classical than Joffrey--think Balanchine girls.)
There was a successful YA novel last year called Bunheads. I don't think the series was based on it.
There's also a line of Capezio products called Bunheads.
Lovepuppy - yes the term "bunheads" is legit. I remember hearing it from my daughter's dance teacher many years ago and she danced with the ABT for 7 years.
So what happens at the end?
It's everything you'd expect from something with Amy Sherman-Palladino's name on it. I was (still am)a Gilmore Girls fan so I was in for this from the get-go. Sutton's character does have a few bits of the Loreli Gilmore's about her but that's probably just the way it's written. Sometimes it's just nice to watch somthing light and not too taxing and this fits into that beautifully. I love Kelly Bishop, she looks like she's going to have a lot of fun with the role.
Bunheads is absolutely a legit terms, I was one for years.
I laughed out loud through the entire thing, and was then very moved at the end. All of this was extremely unexpected.
FINALLY someone is recognizing that Sutton Foster is the modern day Mary Tyler Moore!
After eventually watching it last week OnDemand, I couldn't believe how much I LOVED it. The camera LOVES Sutton Foster and the writing elevates this series above the standard TV crapfest. Kelly Bishop is a Master Class to watch and every single actor in the cast is beyond fantastic -- even the young girls. Sharp, smart and intelligent dialogue.
Just to give you all a hint of how much I enjoyed BUNHEADS -- I watched both showings of the Pilot episode last night: the serie's premiere.
I WILL be following this series.
