Similarly, I think a lot of the casting suggestions for Miranda are far too young. This is not a part for Sherie Rene Scott or Laura Benanti (though he latter would have made a great Emily 10 years ago). I think Janney is would be fun, but she has a hit sitcom and doubt she would commit to this.

Maybe one number late in the show, mostly about her regrets and loneliness, but I don't see her doing production numbers and singing snappy ditties. That's a hard nut to crack - a musical where your central character isn't involved in the musical numbers.
Just discovered and watching Glen Close in 'Damages' and reminded of the similar strength
and style of character of Miranda.
Agree with Wilingtom but with perhaps one big reflective number like 'With one look' would be perfect--but if she nailed it we would all want 'more please'--the best way to leave an audience.
I like the idea of Alison Luff as "Andy"
Glenn Close as "Miranda" - she can't sing but she can do cold and nasty so why not? I've always considered her "Meryl Streep Lite".

^^ yes, please!

Sheri Rene Scott is not exactly young... I mean she looks great for fifty. But... fifty... Meryl was about 55 when she filmed the movie.

I don't think he is, because it now seems that he'll be doing a stage musical adaptation of Tootsie...

And it's been established that Elton John and Paul Rudnick are doing it.
Glenn Close on Damages (seasons 1-3) is fabulous but this is not the role for her. I think it would be perfect for someone like Sherie Rene Scott who can sing her face off (plus she appeared in Aida so there's the Elton connection)

I guess it'll depend on whoever is cast yet fingers crossed the portrayal of Meryl Streep's character is more in keeping with Anna Wintour (who presumably inspired Weisenberger's Miranda Priestly) & not the gray-haired film version Miranda. I'm thinking Streep made physical changes so her film role wouldn't be an obvious spoof of Wintour. I'm hoping the stage Miranda will have Wintour's signature black bangs & bob (not the film's gray-haired version).
You guys... Jane Krakowski for Miranda?
Still backing Carmen Cusack for Miranda
Seems like... an interesting addition?

Taub is an exciting addition to a team that also needed a female voice in a very female story.
Yeah I was wondering - isn't she the first announced female member of the Creative Team?
As others have stated, a much needed addition to this creative team.
I'm still shocked PRETTY WOMAN doesn't have a single female on the creative or design team.
Thrilled with the news today and also seeing that things are developing on the project as we hadn’t heard any more about anything since they announced Elton John and Paul Rudnick’s involvement years ago.
Based on how quickly these new musicals are coming together after first being announced: THE CHER SHOW, TOOTSIE, PRETTY WOMAN, etc. I think it’s safe to assume THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA: The Musical isn’t too far away from being a reality.

I wouldn't mind if the role of Miranda is talk-sung in the manner of Professor Higgins throughout the show and then she gets one surprising huge ballad or Rose's Turn like number at the end.
The character of Andy runs of the risk of having little personality since she's suppose to be reacting to the more colorful characters in the story, so the actress playing Andy needs to have something inherent in her personality to make her character interesting to watch and somebody to root for. Going generic for Andy just so Miranda and Emily can shine more would be a mistake IMO. I want her written to be somebody I believe wants to be a journalist and who turned down a spot at a great law school, not the way Anne Hathaway was written to play her.

Elton John has more than 100 tour dates booked between this September and September 2019. He's got breaks in his schedule, but my guess is they're trying to get most of the score written before he starts his traveling around the world, then maybe they could do a workshop while he's on a break?
I’m sure Elton has the score completed and will make adjustments and rewrites when needed. I feel they’re putting the pieces of the puzzle together right now to get things moving forward. I don’t feel this will have issues getting funded so things will unfold quickly.

I'm having trouble thinking of an actress to play Miranda. I wonder how Cate Blanchet's singing voice is. I guess it depends on how she's musicalized and if you need a legit singer for the role, then she'd be out, but if Elton John is writing it in a way so that one can be more flexible in the casting like the way Leonard Bernstein wrote Ruth Sherwood to meet Rosalind Russell's limited range, then this can be a role that many actresses from all over (even from outside of Broadway) would probably love to do.
i understand that she has said not another musical, ( i guess Company in London doesn't count), but Patti LuPone for Miranda Priestly...a perfect fit i think...
Heck, even Christine Ebersole for Miranda. Even better, Christine Baranski.

I sort of imagined somebody a bit more "cool" and less overtly "passionate" than Lupone for Miranda (for lack of a better word). I think Baranski just excudes comedy too much to work as Miranda...at least the Miranda in my mind. Ebersole could work, but I need more bite and I don't know if her speaking and singing voice is the best fit...again for the Miranda in my mind.
