kudos to Charlotte d'Amboise for her Tony nom!!! I wish someone else was also nominated(Jason Tam, Mara Davi). And Compnay certainly deserves more nominations as well.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
What the hell is everyon'e problem with Jon Groff getting the Leading Actor nomination? When I saw him, I thought he deserved it, he was the best actor on that stage. I don't think that is worthy of a wtf comment.
And looking at how the Tony's really work I think SA has it in the bag. They have recently announced their tour for 2008, so they will probably win the Tony. Why is it that every year people expect it to be about art when yaer after year we see that it isn't...
I realize that its basically the original but I would have loved to see les miz nominated for something. I'm also a little disappointed Legally blonde won't be performing. Looking forward to Spring Awakening and Curtains though! I'll probably change the channel when Mary Poppins comes on, especially if it's supercalifragicrap.
THE APPLE TREE was nominated for best revival...so I guess it's possible. However, she didn't get a nomination for lead actress. If she had, it would have been more of an incentive for her to perform.
SIDE SHOW's leading ladies gave a performance at the Tony's even after their show had closed, so there is hope we will see Kristin's "Gorgeous" at the Tony's.
...and MARY POPPINS should perform "Step in Time" to highlight Gavin Lee (since he was nominated and Brown wasn't). Updated On: 5/15/07 at 10:18 AM
Overall, I'd also say that i'm pleased. Congrats to Spring Awakening, Company and 110 on your nominations!
Here are some random thoughts....
McMartin's snub doesn't surprise me as he did very little in that show. The only person in the show who deserved recognition in my opinion, was Mary Louise Wilson and i'm happy for her.
I'm thinking and hoping that it will be a big night for Spring Awakening. GG is not commercial enough nor was it reviewed well enough to take the big prize, so i'd guess it's a contest between Poppins and SA. Let's hope they vote on the best reviewed show of the season.
The race to best revival between Company and 110 should be interesting.
I think John Gallagher has it in the bag.
I'm hoping Raul still has enough momentum behind his performance to carry him to the podium.
I'm still hoping and praying for a well-deserved Audra upset.
"Is it possible that Chenoweth will still perform a song from The Apple Tree, even though the show is closed? Or does that not happen?"
It's certainly possible, given the nom for Best Revival (each of which usually performs), but there's nothing making her, and with the tony snub...well...there may have been a medley presentation put together before they closed.
"Carson has combined his passion for helping children with his love for one of Cincinnati's favorite past times - cornhole - to create a unique and exciting event perfect for a corporate outing, entertaining clients or family fun."
Pirate Queen's producers should do what David Merrick would have done. Find some guy named Tony and have him nominate the show for all sorts of things...
"I have got to have some professional music!" - Big Edie
I totally missed Company orchestrations getting snubbed, which at first bothered me, but upon thinking about the other nominees and the quality of theirs, I think I understand.
Plus, I think if it does signify an end to the actor/musician it will probably be for the better. I still think that the orchestrations for Sweeney were way more challenging and engaging. Company can be quite a drag with a few things slowed down, downsized, and ultimately dulled. The concept and acting are top notch, but the music is such a driving factor and without that to impress, the snub doesn't bother me too much.
Jon Groff was QUITE pitchy the night I saw SA. Flat anyone??? And the spitting was REEEEdickulous. Boy couldn't play "straight" if his life depended on it.
'It's certainly possible, given the nom for Best Revival (each of which usually performs), but there's nothing making her, and with the tony snub...well...there may have been a medley presentation put together before they closed.'
or they can just put one together from the the reels they shot for the Lincoln Center Archives...

"Now she wants to know WHY, if I'm so fabulous, I would WANT to take care of her child.....I answer with as much filigree and insouciance as I can muster, trying to slightly cock my head like Snow White listening to the animals. She, in turn, is aiming for more of a Diane-Sawyer-pose, looking for answers which will confirm that I am not there to steal her husband, jewelry, friends, or child. In that order."

I HIGHLY doubt Apple Tree will be performed on Tony night... it's already closed and Chenoweth was snubbed. I doubt she will even show up let alone perform!

I don't know why everyone is so mad about Debra Monk. I think she's absolutely boring in Curtains. Granted, it's a pretty boring role, but how difficult is it to play the tough broad who's always spitting out sarcastic one-liners? I was disappointed with Peter Stone's book. I don't think it's Tony-worthy. Good for Karen Ziemba, though - she works her ass off.
I'm surprised by the minimal love for Company -- I would have expected more nominations and this may hurt Raul's momentum. The bipolar MP/LB nominations make no sense. What about Michael Sheen? And it is a huge snub for Kristin. If her new series were on CBS, I might think she'd still go, but if were her, I'd skip the ceremony.
"She sang each word, the angels heard ... They closed her mouth and shipped her south. The woman's done."
The only surprise for me was Chenoweth's snub. Everything else seemed pretty much on par. Knowing how Chenoweth loves to sing on camera at every given opportunity, I don't see why she wouldn't perform at the Tonys if asked. That, and she knows it would be good PR for her.

Well, at least Kristin's new TV show was picked up ...

It dishonors those who go before us,
