I...didn't like it. I don't know, I felt like it was shoving it into our faces WAY too much. Not to mention my increasing annoyance with Wicked, but that's for another thread...
the product placement went right over my head. I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.
The marketing was spot-on. When Betty and Henry crouched down in the lobby to avoid Daniel, what do you know, the little girl is holding the Defy Gravity female green T-shirt up to her body. And right between Betty and Henry.
First off, I liked it-- I really liked the way they used the songs from the show to convey some of the emotion, and I thought Eden sounded awesome on INTG.
If I could add one comment... the vast TV audience are not the crazy theatre freaks we are, and are not going to notice a.) the bubble going up at the wrong time, b.) that the lobby is not the Gershwin, and c.) that it is the LA company and not Broadway (although it's not like it's a total fib... they did play the roles on Broadway, at the same time to boot). They see Betty and Henry seeing "Wicked" on Broadway, and that's about it.
I do think, as well, that the texting in the theatre was just a bit much, but it only goes to show that people DO do that, and maybe it was trying to send a message that it is annoying, in a "subtle" sort of way.
"OMG! I love how they just showed Betty coming out of the Wicked "stage door" and she was standing right in front of Juniors (which is on 45th!) and then showed her walking towards the Music Box Theatre... They showed have checked their geography a little better!!"
If they were trying to make the point that texting in the theater is annoying, they should have had Gio tell Betty how evil texting in the theater is. Then he could have also made a comment about how talking during a theatrical performance is beyond rude. Subtle doesn't work that well with most of the people that would be inclined to talk and text during a show.
OMG I hate when people text in a show. I had someone do it infront of me in Spring Awakening! So totally agree that they should have said it was a bad thing!
And the Bubble? I was watching it with one friend who doesnt know wicked at all, and one who has also seen it. And the friend who has seen it and I, when they started moving the bubble, we were like "wait...but...it's not bubble time!" so that was really like woah!
And using defying gravity at the end? not quite effective. first we thought they were screwing up the order of events...again. then it was just the song. that's not a good song. the point is that Betty only has 5 months left with Henry....a good song would be as long as you're mine.A song that deals with "just for this moment, as long as you're mine" instead of a song that says "Well if that's love, it comes at much too high a cost." It just did not fit!
Don't buy it. You can watch it for free on abc.com starting tomorrow. The full episode. I just watched every epiosode of Samantha Who...and I must say I love the show.
"I never had theatre producers run after me. Some people want to make more Broadway shows out of movies. But Elliot and I aren't going to do Batman: The Musical." - Julie Taymor 1999
i liked it.. I thought Eden sounded great, much better than when I saw her in LA live... I wish Megan had some more lines though.. and I loved eden's holy crap.. I laughed pretty hard.. And I thought Wicked got quite a bit of exposure (no that it needs any) But yup.. I liked it.. And I loved Defying Gravity at the end. Eden sounded great..
"It's terrible to have a house fall on you, it is, but accidents will happen"
As long as the cell is on vibrate, i'd much rather friends text their comments to each other than talk it out to each other - sometimes rows apart. As long as it doesn't interfere with MY experience, I say text away - on vibrate.
"Lobby. Now." And getting up in the middle of a performance - for whatever reason - is worst than texting.
As for geographical conflicts, A lot of what's seen on UB is green screen and illusion. I don't think they do much filming in NY, if any.

Great point! People on here are too freaking picky. Most people did not even notice
