I was at the invited dress tonight. I will refrain from a full review since it was an invited dress, but I really enjoyed a lot of what I saw tonight. It is such a treat to hear Jessie Mueller singing a new score!
"There’s nothing quite like the power and the passion of Broadway music. "
The song that was cut is "Door Number Three" - which makes me sad since I loved it so much during the Cambridge run. Here's to hoping it gets recorded as a bonus track on the inevitable cast album.
"Anybody that goes to the theater, I think we’re all misfits, so we ended up on stage or in the audience.” --- Patti LuPone.
Report from the dress - it was a huge winner. The changes and recasting choices were perfection.
"Door Number Three" is just reworked. New lyrics, same rhythm. Same orchestion mostly. It's become a more complex, much stronger moment for the character with much of the same great melody.

That is really wonderful to hear. Glad to hear "Door Number Three" still exists since it was a personal favorite of mine in Cambridge.

I did not realize this! She just made each of her performances her own that I just thought they were made for her. Now we actually get to see her sing songs created for her'
In our millions, in our billions, we are most powerful when we stand together. TW4C unwaveringly joins the worldwide masses, for we know our liberation is inseparably bound.

I think You Matter to Me is one of the strongest moments on the album. I'm actually also glad to hear Door Number 3 has been reworked. I like the melody but tbh the song lost me a bit lyric-wise.
"Contentment, it seems, simply happens. It appears accompanied by no bravos and no tears."
I was at the dress rehearsal last night so this really isn't a review other than just comments about what I saw. I haven't seen the movie, nor heard any of the music. Highlight for me was Jessie Meuller. She really is a great actress. No matter what people think of the show itself, she'll likely get great reviews. I was a bit underwhelmed by the score. It had some great moments, but left me a little "Meh" on the whole. Perhaps I need to listen to some of it now to appreciate it more. I also really enjoyed Christopher Fitzgerald who provided some much needed comic relief however silly it may have been. All in all, I would see it again. I often enjoys shows much more the 2nd time around.
