Is it too soon to know whom will be Jonathan Groff's alternate? I was trying to order tickets for one of the three nights I am able to go to see this, and it is listed that he will not be appearing for the dates. (11/14, 11/15 or 11/16) Curious at to who might be performing that night? Maybe it is way too soon to know?
Thanks!
I'm curious about this too, but it will probably come out when the rest of the cast is announced. Will they get a name for the role or is the rest of the cast selling enough tickets to where the Seymour alt can be unknown? Either way, I'm excited.
Agh so many great possibilities. I won't even be in town but would love to see Brian D'Arcy James play the part.

Statements like this are why I'm glad many posters here do not work in casting. There is no world where a 51 year old actor is remotely appropriate for Seymour.

This isn't King George, the age difference would be drastic. Maybe he could play Orin or Mushnik, but not Seymour.

I haven't read anywhere that there will be an alternate for the role, did I miss something? It's not like the role is particularly taxing to sing, and it's not like Groff is some pampered movie star who's never done 8 shows a week before. Has there been an announcement or are you making an assumption?
Groff won’t be performing from Nov. 5 to 17. Thus the conjecture.

Right? I laughed out loud.
I intentionally bought tickets when Groff is out because I don't care for his voice, I am going for Christian Borle. I'm sure whomever will be Audrey 11 will be amazing as well. I'm sure they will have someone great as Seymour, and perhaps who fits the part a bit more.
Ethan Slater would be perfect for Seymour.

I can get behind this casting, and he would sell some tickets.
Well, SOME. Beyond Spongebob fans, who else would know him? Especially enough to buy tickets for?

Was thinking the same, he would be perfect.

I've heard that they have been in touch with Jordan Fisher to take over for the 2 weeks that Groff is out - hopefully it works out. I think he'd be great!
I don't know if he can sing at all, and he's certainly no Jonathan Groff in terms of name recognition, but if you asked me who I can see as a great Seymour, Troy Gentile springs immediately to mind.
It's a 2 week mini-run. I want to see D'Arcy sing those songs, I honestly don't see what's wrong with that. If Ellen Greene can star opposite Jake G (30 year difference!), D'Arcy can star opposite Blanchard (who is 40+ herself). But I'll see myself out regardless.

There should be a question mark in the subject line.

The age difference was acceptable because it was Ellen Greene
that said, D’arcy James would be a delicious Orin

Oooooooooo, would love that! Also thought of Ethan before I went to sleep.
Jut so happy I'm in town when this begins.
I am sure there will be a multi-purpose understudy who will cover Seymour, Orin, and maybe Mushnik & the Plant.

Ahh! This admittedly did *not* cross my mind but would be so amazing.
Adam Kantor would be perfection as well.

Throwaway for obvious reasons, but I'm also hearing Jordan Fisher from a reliable source.
Jordan is incredibly popular, people LOVED him when he was in Hamilton and on Rent:Live. He has a much better voice and is way hotter than Jonathan. If true, I made a very wise choice!
