This has been going on for the last year.... Nonetheless, it will not hurt Christie in the primary but may be SOMETHING during the general; maybe a blip on the radar at most. I personally believe this thread is wishful thinking.

Like all things, it will depend on how much traction it gets in/via the media.

Lingering nonstories have languished nonstoriedly for a long time with no coverage until primary season blows them up.

In the words of Hillary Clinton: "What does it matter?"

Did Christie get a diplomat killed in a foreign country?

Did Christie quit his job as Secretary of State (or more likely was doing such a poor job that she was pushed out?)

It's a big story, but I'm skeptical that it's a campaign-killer. I'm afraid that people who like Christie are inclined to LIKE the "bare-knuckled, street-fighter" BS.

I remember reading somewhere--I think in 'Double Down' (the Mark Helperin book about the 2012 election) that the committee vetting VPs for Romney were "flabbergasted" by the number of skeletons in Christie's closet.

I'm hoping that the Good Guys will wait until Christie has built up some momentum (Remember, momentum = MASS x velocity squared, so Christie may develop some SERIOUS momentum) before doling out the skeletons.

Goth,

STFU

Stop bringing up BENGAZI BENGAZI BENGAZI! It's been proven false and it has NOTHING to do with the subject at hand.

He cannot survive this without a criminal prosecution of Bridget Anne Kelly, who is his #1 aide.

She will have to take the fall for him and say "I tell him everything, all day long, every day, but this one thing--this I kept from him, knowing how wrong it was."

Read the emails that have the capacity to kill his presidential hopes and force him to resign the governorship.

PJ, I have seen those and there is no doubt they are damning. But you would be hard pressed to find political gurus who truly believe this would completely derail him. You'd need a concoction of questionable calls/decisions/etc. along with this "scandal."

I think he can't win now. This is a negative campaign ad even if no one can prove his involvement (which could lead to federal charges for tampering with interstate commerce). So's that lovely moment where he shoved his finger in the teacher's face and yelled at her. So's almost every public appearance he's had where he's starting screaming or making fun of the person talking to him. So's his lies about why there wasn't a new tunnel built between NJ and New York. I could go on.

His own party will attack him as well for being too liberal. Did you know he embraced Obama? And worked WITH Democrats to pass legislation he wanted? Shoot, he just passed his own Dream Act, a big no-no with Republicans. Plus, he's from the big blue state of New Jersey. If his party doesn't eat him alive during the primaries, they'll certainly put doubt in the wingnuts minds and the Democrats will easily push him over with the ample material he's created through his own idiotic public behavior.

This would be a lot bigger problem for him if this was January, 2016 instead of January, 2014. 2 years is a lifetime for him to put this behind him and rack up some positive accomplishments and feel good stories especially if it can never be shown he was aware of and supportive of this activity. If the Dems nominate a nincompoop and the Republicans nominate a hard line right wing type, many who are closer to the center from both parties would see him as a reasonable compromise. He is glib, funny, down to earth, self deprecating and terrific on talk shows. It would be a big mistake to underestimate Chris Christie.

When stories like this come out, you know the Dems take him seriously. Amazing this gets play but our illustrious new mayors socialist leanings mean nothing. Better still the new city counsel speaker who has oodles of dirty laundry no one seems to care about. Where is Christine Quinn when you need her?

Let us not forget Hillary. In addition to her Benghazi remark, she was overheard by Gates talking to Obama and telling him (during the primaries) she opposed the surge only for political purposes She is playing with peoples lives which is a tad more important than NJ lane closures.

Put a fork in Chris Christie? Only if you want a fork full of fat? Think of your cholesterol levels before dining there.

I guess the question is how many Americans died on American soil because emergency response vehicles like ambulances and firetrucks were stalled due to snared traffic?

"It will be a tough November for this little Serbian" - David Wildstein (Christie Port Authority Appointee) when asked for comment about Mayor Mark Sokolick when he refused to endorse Chris "Pork Rinds" Christie.

"David Wildstein deserves an ass kicking. There, I said it" - Mark Sokolick

David has since resigned. Shocker. Christie will never admit anything, he will blame it on an aid, fire that aid after he's paid off, and move on. He's despicable.

Dems would never do anything so dastardly. Heaven forbid.

I guess John Corzine was an example of moral fortitude. Ask the people who lost billions because of him.

Ditto for Spitzer,Weiner etc etc

Another explanation is,heaven forbid, he is telling the truth and did not know. Have you ever heard the term "Innocent until proven guilty"?

Are Republicans still pretending that Hillary Clinton said those deaths didn't matter? It's almost cute (if the utter disdain for truth and accuracy weren't so repellent).

But Christie's supporters will most likely pat him on the back for screwing a city led by a Democrat mayor.

Plus, he threw his trusted lieutenant Bridget Ann Kelly under a bus.

PJ--your link took me to possibly the gayest Love Boat episode ever--Merman, Channing, Ann Miller and Della Reese!

I look forward to watching it, but could you post the link to the article you referenced?

Thx...

Christie says:

“I am outraged and deeply saddened to learn that not only was I misled by a member of my staff, but this completely inappropriate and unsanctioned conduct was made without my knowledge,”

He's clearly willing to sacrifice Bridget Kelly on the altar of public opinion. I will be curious to see if he fires her and, if so, I hope somebody keeps tabs on her career--will she land in a highly-paid sinecure in the office of a deep-pocketed Christie supporter?

Also--the wheels of fate are so mysterious and beautiful. Could Ms. Kelly's parents have had some profound insight into the future when they named her BRIDGEt????
