I'm surprised they're announcing this over 15 months ahead of time.

Wait... DECEMBER 2018? Is this a typo? That is well into the next season...
no theater announced. Maybe The Golden?

Looking forward to this...though I'm happy to say that I'm glad it isn't debuting until the end of the year, because my wallet is already taking a hit in 2018.

Interesting. I don't think we NEED this, I'd rather see an original play, but with the powers behind it, I'm sure it will be great.

I recall a version of this at Papermill Playhouse. It must be 25 years ago, easily. I don't recall much about it except that it wasn't very good and, for some reason, did not translate well to the stage.
I always wondered why Horton Foote never took a stab at a stage version. I trust Sorkin will remain true to the work and won't feel the need to update or "revise" it.
when I originally read this I just thought it said 2017. Talk about early planning.
Bizarrely early announcement. But yay to Sher being involved!
Wasn't this planned to be a TV adaptation? I swear I remember Rudin and Sorkin were teaming up do a live TV play. Let me go find receipts.
Edit - ugh, that was Sorkin's A Few Good Men (link). Link says early 2017 air date. Well, this never happened. NBC website says "coming soon", whatever that means.

Not sure about Rudin, but Sorkin is definitely behind NBC's live A Few Good Men happening sometime in the future with Alex Baldwin (not Mockingbird).

One of my favorite books adapted by one of my favorite dramatists? Just take my money now.
If this actually happens, I really hope Matthew Modine is still attached to it.

Well, I don't think we need any of them?!

We definitely need a new stage version of TKAMB. The Christopher Sergel one sucks.
Probably announced very early for high schools in the area to start planning group trips.

I hope this version eventually becomes available to for other companies to produce. The current stage adaptation by Chris Sergel is very poor, with tons of extremely dramatic moments related to the audience via narration. Remember, the first rule of creative writing? Show don't tell!

Apparently group sales begin tomorrow for this. I don't know enough about the ins and outs of the industry, but is that typical this far in advance?

When pretty much every high school in the US has this book in the English curriculum, I imagine teachers are chomping at the bit to start booking group tickets for their classes.

Good point! Makes sense.

Except that many high school English teachers will not have the same students tomorrow as they will in December 2018 which is in a new academic year. Departments, I guess, will just have to estimate how many people will be interested and make a bulk order and then wait until next September to tell that class.
And add to that, MOST schools cannot spend money from THIS year's budget, for NEXT year's activities. I know I can't. My drama club can....but I can't make that decision for them (the students - they determine what we see each year.)
how exciting...AARON SORKIN is a genius writer...i loved his movie STEVE JOBS...one of the most articulate and verbose movies i have ever seen...hopefully Sorkin will put some fire into this version that will make this work for the stage...
