Also, where does it say that Andrew is on for Monday? I can't find that announcement.
Wondering the same thing ... do we actually know who is going on or is this just speculation?
That said, I understand how devastating a knee injury can be depending on exact circumstances so I'm inclined to think Karl could be out awhile but just wondering if there's been actual confirmation. Either way, I hope the very best for him. What a pro.

You're insufferable.

^ I know, I'm always caught off guard when he mentions a husband.
Fuming means angry. Why would Orfeh be angry?

It's a stick and play role: you can stick anyone who can sing/dance the role into the part of Phil and they can play it without any different to the material. I would bet that over 99% of audiences won't care or notice the difference in Andy Karl not being there.
I agree with you, Jane2. Some of you are acting like this is Midler in Dolly of Sally Field over at the Belasco. The audience isn't going to care if Karl is in the role or not.

Doesn't that depend on the reviews? The only reason audiences care about seeing Ben Platt in DEH is because he's gotten raves for his performance.
Most people don't care about seeing Platt, either.

Opening nights are usually packed with friends/family/fans and some celebs, plus the press. I'm guessing that most are very familiar with Andy Karl and will actually be disappointed.
Also kids ... I have yet to see anything updated in the NYT or Playbill about tomorrow's opening. I would prefer to read a legitimate article. If anyone can provide, please do so.
I'm wondering when (or if) they'll do an announcement soon saying what will happen. I would have expected them to say what was happening wth opening night tomrorow. Anyways I hope Andy gets better soon!! He is such an amazing guy, and it's really awful what happened. I'm curious though to see where everyone is getting these rumors from? (Not saying they're wrong just wondering since I haven't seen anything posted yet)
I think that opening will go on as planned tomorrow with Andrew Call as Phil. I do believe that an exception will be made for Andy Karl, HOWEVER, there needs to be time for the nomination committee to actually see him before nominations. I know the deadline is the 27th this year, and from how things are sounding, it is anyone's guess if 10 days will be enough recovery time for him.
There needs to be an announcement made tomorrow morning in regards to whether Karl or Call is performing. If opening night were to be postponed, I think they would have announced that today.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
What an interesting thread. Thanks for the entertainment.
Since I have just as few FACTS as anyone else -- he is what I AM SURE will happen (LOL)
1. Opening night is Monday. It will remain. This is a business and tickets have been sold. If you push it back a week you lose a week's revenue. Ouch. Why? How many people gonna show up and demand a refund if Andy Karl isn't on?
2. Andy Karl will not go on tomorrow. If he was hurt enough to walk on a cane right after the injury with the adrenaline flowing, then he is too hurt to risk his entire adult life on screwing up an extraordinarily important part of his performing future. Besides, no producer in his right mind (nor their insurer) would allow it. You know how factory workers need to be cleared by the company doc to return to work? Just sayin. Take your time Andy -- take it from an old man (cheap song title reference).
3. He will be nominated for the Tony, despite the rule. The rule exists so the person being considered with be the "person who created the role." He's already done that, in London and in NY up until now. We all Know that the understudy has been working his butt off to be "just like Andy" rather than to create a role. His job is to be as much like the guy he is replacing not just for the benefit of the audience, but for the benefit of the rest of the cast. People on these Boards know that. Which also means that:
4. Outside of a small circle of friends (as Phil Ochs said) no one cares who is playing the role come Monday night. Or Tuesday. Andy Karl isn't a star like that -- he is not the person selling the tickets. No one (except for maybe one person I can think of) has said -- hey, Andy Karl is going to be on Broadway, let's go see him..... OK, maybe two people. You can number on your fingers the Broadway performers who have that kind of box office pull -- (maybe a thread for that -- stars who can sell tickets regardless of what the show is) -- Maybe Audra, used to be Bernadette Peters, but probably no more -- looks like Bette Midler this year -- Neil Patrick Harris? --
Not Andy Karl.
(maybe someday Andy -- now take care of your knee and don't let anybody talk you into coming back before your are 100% ready.)
