Signature Theatre in Arlington just cancelled over a week of performances of "Rent". Hopefully they can extend but, there is a tour or Rent going out which will play The National Theatre in DC and since they own local rights after Signatures dates, Signature needs to get their permission to extend. Lets see if there is good will between theatre companies nowadays.
Damn, this makes 4 out of my last 5 shows that have been cancelled.
My friend arrives Wednesday from California. She's already on the East Coast. We were scheduled to see 8 different shows during the next week including Aladdin and Dear Evan Hansen. I've already rebooked Dear Evan Hansen for next Wednesday. It will be interesting to see if Aladdin actually happens on Sunday.
Feeling so sad for all the shows that desperately needed a lucrative holiday season after so long dark now having to give out refunds. Hopefully most people can exchange. I feel like we may see some premature closings because of the lack of income this week.
-additional swings and understudies (NOT ensemble members who understudy, but u/s who are on call).."
I don't remember what show it was, but there was a West End production over the summer that (after having had to shut down temporarily) hired a handful of swings/understudies that rehearsed together and then stayed off-site until they were needed. They avoided an additional shutdown.

"The sexual energy between the mother and son really concerns me!"-random woman behind me at Next to Normal
"I want to meet him after and bang him!"-random woman who exposed her breasts at Rock of Ages, referring to James Carpinello
Some of the restaurants in the Lincoln Center area are closed. You would never know it was a few days until Christmas for foot traffic in the area is slight.
Only way to keep track of what's performing on Broadway - A rundown of current Broadway shows and their planned show times, as well as cancellations due to COVID.

People have said that if another full shutdown were to occur, it would make it almost impossible for Broadway to recover! More and more shows will have to close permanently! There would be more empty theatres by the time we emerge from this! I posted something similar weeks ago and people said that it would not mean another shutdown, but that should be the case now, but again, I do not see that happening!
The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince
I love my post criticizing Charlotte St. Martin getting removed as if this website would continue to exist should she continues her reign destroying the industry by doing absolutely nothing.

She is just digging her own grave at this point (careerwise). I can assume that when this is over, there will be calls for her resignation.

I don't really understand what folks are proposing here. What should Bway shows do?
A lockdown wouldn't be backed up by any gov't help this time. Restaurants are facing the same challenge, lost revenue by self-imposed personal lockdowns. But there is absolutely no political capital or public will to do wide lockdowns again. Especially since the vaccines seem to be seriously cutting into hospitalizations.
It feels like the world's strategy is get vaxxed, and brace yourselves for a rocky winter, getting through however you can.

I was surprised there weren't larger calls earlier this year when everyone was twiddling thumbs waiting to hear about reopening and she and her team were doing nothing for the industries visibility or internal communications.
Her comments today really set me over the edge as someone who has been in constant meetings the last week trying to make safe conditions for our crews and audiences (not on Broadway).

For me it's less about the action and more about the messaging. The League is saying "let them eat cake" with that they won't consider a shutdown while crews, cast and likely audiences are creating daily mass spreader events. It's just unprofessional and it shows how out of touch the industry leaders are, telling people who just came back to work and are still struggling financially and mentally to get screwed and figure it out themselves.
