I don't think the issue is whether the hair is a wig or not, it's the fact that the filmmakers (and there are a LOT of people who work on making a film) saw this look and decided to keep it. To me that is shocking because (for reasons I have explained in an earlier post) the look just does not work. I remember seeing early photos of Judy Garland in The Wizard of Oz where she had blond hair and was all glammed up. Thankfully, people looked at that and decided to change it. Even after filming started the hair could have been an easy fix. The bottom line is, in a role where being young, wide-eyed naive teen is imperative to the role, they actually made choices that make Evan look older. I don't think that this is Ben's fault and I hope his performance is as moving as it was on stage. But I think the filmmakers made a mistake that might impact the effectiveness of the entire movie.

I'm glad Ben Platt cleared up that what's on his head is his real hair and not a wig. Honestly I never cared about it, and I was focused on the trailer as a whole. Did you guys know that Lilla Crawford auditioned for the role of Zoe Murphy? Here's a video of her singing Requiem and now I wish she played the role instead of Kaitlyn Dever.

For anyone interested, I've been able to extract a better quality copy:

That was a neat TV Spot, also "Waving" sounds really good here.
His hair in the promo is distracting.
I really enjoy her singing. That is a beautiful version, I would have loved to see her play that character.

I think Kaitlyn Dever will be perfectly fine, but Lilla would've been an inspired choice. She was fantastic in Into The Woods as Red Riding Hood and I would love to see her in a musical film again.
I think Crawford would be a great choice as a replacement Zoe in the Broadway show.
While she does have some film & TV credits to her name (with Into The Woods being a pretty major one), I don’t think she’s so famous that being a replacement in a very popular Broadway musical would be unrealistic.
This definitely looks like a CW series. It looks like RIVERDALE.

Ben Platt, talent aside, is waaaaaay too old to play Evan in the film. I've seen the trailer. I love the show, but what's up with the fro?

From what I've seen, Kaitlyn Dever is a superior actor to Lilla Crawford, but it's not really fair because Crawford has probably come a long way since I last saw her act. A lot can change in 6 years for a young actor. She does a good job in the video above, but it's not really the optimal format to get a good sense of how well she'd act the role in context. If Dever is bad at singing, it will definitely be frustrating, but she's perfect for the role on paper, and has demonstrated the acting chops to bring an immense amount of depth and vulnerability to the role.

Kaitlyn Dever sang a bit in Booksmart, and she has a great voice.

I hope she slays it so good. Her brief bit of singing in Booksmart isn't enough to convince me, but by then she probably has had some more vocal training to prepare for this role. I know Julianne Moore is a fantastic actress and will nail it acting wise, but I hope she had a vocal coach for this.
Booksmart was the first time I heard her voice, but there are also other videos on YouTube of her singing, and she sounds lovely.
Is Moore singing "Good for you" in the film? (Sorry I've seen the show once and it wasn't for me, but I do like that song) and just wonder if she'll be able to bring the powerhouse vocals and almost rock star quality to it.

I was told that song was cut. Not sure if it's true or not.
It will stink if Good For You is cut. It’s a great tune and allows the mother to express her anger after being very amenable to everything and only existing to provide for her son.
Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet, but I noticed the trailer says “featuring award-winning music and new songs by Pasek and Paul.” Maybe a new song for Moore if they cut “Good for You”?
They've announced one new song was written for Alana. There may be others, but that is one that we know of for sure.
While I enjoy Good For You, I don’t think it would translate well to screen. It can easily be replaced by a monologue

Agreed.

If they add a song that wasn't in the stage production, I hope it's "In the Bedroom Down the Hall"... an already-great song that was cut before the show opened.
