BREAKING NEWS: Tony nominee Ramin Karimloo is expected to execute a stunning feat when he commutes between Trieste and New York to perform in both Phantom of the Opera Italy and Funny Girl on Broadway!
Finally saw this last night - my goodness Leah was fantastic, and unsure how this show managed through that bore of Act 2 without her. I was sad to miss Tovah but Liz McCartney was great as Mrs. Brice, though I suspect a different energy (I am a big fan of Crazy Ex GF). I am glad they are extending through the Summer to allow more audiences to see this performance.

Not gonna lie, I've been putting off buying a ticket and booking a flight because I was waiting for this announcement. Mainly because my inner saboteur convinced me that knowing my luck I would pick a date when she'd come down with the plague or something. lol But she's just gotta be there for her last few shows...right?
Next thought, will I have to hock an organ to pay for said ticket? Hmm?
"...unsure how this show managed through that bore of Act 2 without her..."
Reminded of all of our early threads and occasional contention about that unwieldy second act. It's reassuring to read a newer post that notes its shapeless, dirge-like trajectory, stacked with ballads expressing the same sentiments repeatedly. Yes, those are damn good songs, but how much stage time can you devote to the man that got away? Full disclosure: I saw the show with Feldstein (game but, a teen playing dress-up in mom's clothes) and Ardema (game, at times heroic in her investment), and the surprise-free second half just barely registers as drama. Glad to know it's close to working with this star.

Does anyone else think it will be impossible for Ramin to perform in both shows? He took time off to do the show I saw him at in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday and that show was in the same country as Times Square. Will he be splitting time by a few weeks in one country and a few weeks in another country? I'm asking because a relative wants to see him perform in the musical because the relative really like the solo show in Fort Lauderdale. I want to make sure I get tickets for a date he will be in Funny Girl.

I don't think it's impossible. Apparently, it's a very short engagement in Italy. According to the NYT, "Karimloo will take a leave from June 27 through July 17 to star in a production of “The Phantom of the Opera” in Italy."
Hopefully this clears up any confusion on performance schedules... this is taken directly from the Funny Girl website:
"One final extension! Barring an unforeseen absence, Ms. Michele is scheduled to perform seven shows a week now through September 3rd, 2023! She will not be performing on Thursday evenings. The marvelous Julie Benko will perform as Fanny on Thursday evenings.
There are otherwise a handful of changes to this schedule in 2023:
Ms. Michele will not perform Thursday 3 /16 through Sunday 3/19
Ms. Michele will not perform the 8pm show on Wednesday April 26th.
Ms. Michele will perform on Thursday 5/11 at 7pm Ms. Michele will perform on Sunday 5/14 at 2pm Ms. Michele will not perform on Sunday 5/14 at 7:30pm
Ms. Michele will not perform June 5th through June 11th
Ms. Michele will not perform on Monday 7/3 at 7pm Ms. Michele will not perform on Sunday 7/23 at 2pm
Ms. Michele will not perform August 18th through August 20th
Also note - Ramin Karimloo will not perform Sunday 4/30 through Sunday 5/7 and again June 27th through July 17th. Tovah Feldshuh will not perform June 27th through July 13th, July 28th through 30th and August 17th through August 23rd.
Otherwise, we can confirm that all of our other principals remain scheduled to perform all eight (8) performances a week barring an unforeseen absence."
I was one of those that thought act 2 of Funny Girl was irredeemable when I saw it with Julie. How could a smart, talented woman be so weak and submissive about Nick? It just didn't work and left a bad taste in my mouth.
Fast forward to seeing it with Lea a few weeks ago. She made it work. The book is still very weak, but Lea projects such strength and determination that Nick seems like a mere blip in the journey of Fanny. When the curtain comes down on Lea, you know Fanny will not just be alright, she will thrive.
One day, Lea will make an amazing Mama Rose. She has this incredible determined, strong vibe about her.

If you read Fanny's bio you will find she was completely enamored of Nicky - even more than the show suggests. She never quite got over him until just before she died, and even then it took her a moment to finally leave him emotionally. Lea does an amazing job of showing Fanny's different colors.
Did they film the entire show? I mean just thinking through how many clips are in that YouTube video, they had to set up A LOT of shots, some of those scenes had multiple angles. Think a pro-shot may be on its way?

Having seen almost 30 shows on Broadway in the past year, this is the most memorable show whose success rests solely on one actor. And she truly is an once in a generation talent and I don’t know if Funny Girl will ever be revived again in the near future.

Please don't forget that in real life Arnstein was 1000X or more worse than he is portrayed in this show. He was a total con man who had no qualms about using his wife as a piggy bank.
Those kinds of people are experts at manipulating other's feelings. They will seem to put all their focus on a person, completely seducing them. Often they are also amazing in the sack. Don't underestimate the power of what the kids these days call "Big D Energy."
Update on the website about tickets for September 3:
"NOTE - September 3rd remains off sale to the public. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that this performance will be placed on sale until much later this summer (if at all)."
