Also, regarding Beanie and the wedding, it was the first weekend after opening, and it wasn't announced until after tickets went on sale, when people had already made plans to attend, many traveling from out of town. That was the issue.
Afterward, the only discussion was about how Beanie shot herself in the foot by opening the door for Julie Benko to outshine her so early in the run.
I can’t wait for this to close and I hope we never get another revival ever again. The amount of gross that is all over this thread, the Beanie threads and just all of the drama. Absolutely ridiculous. All of that for a poorly written show to boot! See ya later, Funny Girl!

Thank you!! I said something similar a few pages back and got roasted.
Good luck with that. Just because it closes doesn’t mean we won’t be talking about it and rehashing for years to come. This one is worth discussing. If you don’t like it you can simply not read the thread and let people go on about whatever they want to go on about.

You sound sweet. I do not have issues with discussion - it is the disgusting, hypocritical comments that people constantly make. But I love your holier than thou attitude. Get off your high horse.

So tonight 8/25/23 big truck outside the August Wilson and cameras inside.
Wonder why they were filming now, seems late in the game for anything big.

Hope it's a pro-shot people can buy. Lea said she would be willing to stay after a Sunday show. Maybe they will be filming the Saturday matinee.
Well I for one am sad that the revival is closing, even though I never got to see it for better or worse because Lea Michele was of course out for the entire time of my trip (look she doesn't have awful attendance by any means but it was not a spotless record). The drama from the very beginning - questions on whether this would be a straight transfer from the Menier production, questioning the casting before (from the Sitzprobe clips), during and after performances had started - watching the sales tank and wondering what they were going to do, Beanie kind of quitting (and feeling both sorry for her because she didn't cast herself but then recognising objectively there of course was a problem and this is Broadway and this show and this part it is hard not to be so exposed unfortunately), the 'rising star' Julie Benko narrative and watching her have her chance to actually be the first replacement for Beanie over the summer, bringing in Lea after she kind of nearly felt cancelled and all the pressure behind that then smashing it out of the park, wondering if the'd be a Jane Lynch Glee reunion with Lea that didn't end up to be, being annoyed at audience members who won't let Lea Michele actually sing her damn songs without screaming over her (are they actually wanting to listen? You're giving Lea a free pass to not even hit those notes!), getting a cast recording, the minor tour casting drama etc. This has been an absolute roller coaster and I suspect all of this offstage antics is probably more interesting than the show itself, which I would agree with any sentiment that it's a poorly written show with a few great songs. We need a 'tell all' book or a documentary or something because it is rare for this kind of thing to happen.
None of this saga could probably perhaps better be personified than Lea Michele singing "Don't Rain On My Parade". I can't think of many better stories than this one, except maybe the whole drama and saga of the two Gypsy revivals with Bernadette/Mendes and Patti/Laurents.
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

Might be an odd question but if it bothers you why are you even reading the thread?
"I hope your Fanny is bigger than my Peter."
Mary Martin to Ezio Pinza opening night of Fanny.
This revival has been fascinating to watch play out IMO. As binau stated earlier in the thread... from the announcement of the revival itself, to the initial casting, the infamous sitzprobe video, Benko's rise and Michele's return to the stage... I've really enjoyed watching from the sidelines. I also enjoyed seeing all three women take on the role of Fanny.

It’s been a big, messy Broadway story and, despite or perhaps because of all the ugliness it has inspired, is undoubtedly compelling. There’s been nothing like it on Broadway in years. In football terms, it’s like a team with a nasty quarterback controversy, and all the personal and professional drama that goes with it. And then you toss in highly questionable decisions by the producers along with a whole host of hot-button cultural issues and you get this. For a decades-old revival, the show has generated a never-ending list of very current controversies.
And for me, there is still drama over this show. After cancelling when Lea Michele called out during our March trip, we are supposed to travel across the country and see it Wednesday night. Am I going? For reasons I won’t bore anyone with, I don’t know. I hope so, as I’m very invested in seeing it at this point.
She’s got like, eight performances left, guys. Any previous absences have been due to family emergencies (remember her young son was in the hospital) or health issues, she’s not skipping to go to the Taylor Swift concert or something. The rewriting of history in this thread lately is…something.

How awful for her- I hope it's minor, if she contracted Covid again and has to miss the rest of the performances, that would be devastating. And I'm sure it's not because it's her birthday- if she were the true diva everyone makes her out to be, she would eat up having the audience sing "Happy Birthday" to her- wouldn't she?
At least the Funny Girl social media team finally learned how to turn off comments on their Instagram posts. It's about time.
I had tickets for tonight. I called to reschedule and was told by SeatGeek they could transfer my tickets but I'd have to pay the difference in the "new prices" for those seats. I screamed at two supervisors over this insane and greedy policy.
Greedy? Yes. The way its done now? Also, yes. The supervisors didnt set the policy, the production did.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
