I don’t really care much for Riedel, and I don't need him back to stirring the Broadway pot. With that said, absolutely anyone is better than the oracle; he is gross to me.

I would tune into WOR in mornings for their show and at times liked the discussions. Riedel was on from 6 a.m. to 10. What annoyed me most were the endless commercials that when on to long. WOR needed advertising dollars but the format of this radio show was interrupted to often. Wouldn't mind Riedel on a half hour tv theatre program with a co-host. Wish him luck.

Podcasting would be a great format for him too. I'm sure Broadway Podcast Network would view him as a big get.

Agree that he needs a cohost –– someone who can balance him out and keep up with him so it's not too combative for the guests.

Good. He’s a despicable POS.

“I attended Gypsy last night with several family members that are staying at the same hotel . I walked them to the elevators and as I was leaving, Audra came in fast and this disgusting, huge, ogre of a man came blasting through the revolving door, nearly falling. He got extremely close to her, shoved a playbill in her face and said "I came alllll the way from Houston so you OWE me an autograph sister". Four security guards from the hotel staff immediately swarmed him until the cops arrived. It was horrifying and women have experienced this kind of illegal, terrifying behavior forever. If you were followed back to where you were staying in the city OP, pretty sure you wouldn't call it "foolery" because it's not. It's felony stalking. Do better. And I will NEVER be quiet regarding women's safety (especially by loser men in this thread) as this has happened to me and millions of other women as well. Enough..” —-Sutton Ross, 8/16/25 “Pretty incredible coincidence that the night before this post was made, Sutton was allegedly not only at Gypsy, but ended up at the same hotel, managed to witness an incident that perfectly aligns with the topic at hand, stayed long enough to see how it resolved despite being with family members, and it wasn’t even the first thing she replied to this thread with- she only brought it up after she had been challenged by multiple members. ” — Kad, 8/16/25

The Oracle is an awful TikTok personality who has some insider industry information. Both his attitude and willingness to double down on things he should stop talking about are reprehensible. His exchange with Kennedy Kanagawa regarding Tiananmen: A New Musical was particularly unfortunate and earned himself a place on my block list.

From the 2014 Easter Bonnet opening number:

Rory O’Malley — “New York Post’s Michael Riedel… I knew it, you are the DEVIL!”

Riedel — “I’ve been called worse.”

“I am furious, but I am sailing.”

I confess I never heard him on WOR. I'm generally having my first cup of coffee near the time the show ends, and listening to his voice then would be worse than listening to Einstürzende Neubauten with the volume turned all the way up at that hour. I think a podcast would be perfect for him, even though I also confess I don't enjoy them.

Let me add that Michael is the worst of his ilk because he usually had some legitimate information but never could resist embellishing it with nonsense. As a result, he was invariably Mr. Half-Truth.

Good riddance. I despise people who react to the misfortunes of others with gleeful malice.

Riedel used to have a beat at the bars at industry hangouts like Joe Allen, gleaning information in an old school print journalism way. I admired him for that, keeping that old pre-social media in person, on location, Times Square gossip hound tradition alive. Other than that I think his bitchiness was never clever enough and his ruthlessness was far too cutesy. I'm afraid I don't miss him either.

I just read his book "Razzle Dazzle" (I got it at a used book store in their $1 bin), and wow... I knew he was a sad gossip columnist who would make up crap to sell papers, but I didn't realize just how bad a writer he was. The fawning blurbs from Kevin Spacey and Scott Rudin should be enough to let you know how terrible and badly researched his book was. I stopped counting how many easily researchable mistakes were in it, because I don't have that kind of leisure time.
