Yeah, obviously there's only so much real estate available, but actively counting on a show to fail in order to mount your own feelsgross."
It's not that the producers of any given show hope that a show closes so they can come in, it's that they're offered what they're offered and so long as it matches the specs needed for a given production. That decision is solely on the theater owners. Producers can have a wishlist and some have meaningful pull with the owners and can select what they want more than others (Sonia Friedman, R*din as two examples), but they get what they get for the most part.

I mean... what's the alternative? Shows can't run forever and there are far more prospective productions than theaters.

David Yazbeck and Erik Della Pinawill perform a concert version of the show and supposedly announce the Broadway run!"
I was there tonight, anyone else? Very vague "come see us on Broadway" messaging and it sounds like the Audible recording won't be coming until 2025 (sigh). I LOVE this score, but curiously the big marathon runner number that everyone thought was superfluous but also a banger of a song wasn't performed, and that's the one I was looking forward to hearing again the most ... Regardless, I will follow wherever this show goes next.
I'm surprised they didn't announce the theatre tonight. The Belasco would be a perfect fit for Outlaw. But if you're going to open before late April, in a crowded season, wouldn't you know where you were going by now? Wouldn't cast members have been alerted to a rehearsal date? Looking forward to wherever they land!

You cannot announce for a theatre that is publicly taken, even if the writing is on the wall. You have to wait for the closing announcement.

On Facebook Yasbek stated they might be coming in this year, they might be coming in next year....

No, hence why I mentioned their vague messaging. Yazbek has made reference on his socials that they are waiting for just the right theater (in my mind that's the Booth) so I'm prepared to wait until next fall if need be.

Out of curiosity, did they perform any songs that weren't in the off-Broadway version? Very bummed I couldn't make this last night.
