From ‘Killing Eve’ to conquering Broadway, Jodie Comer captivates in ‘Prima Facie’

I saw the play (finally) last night, and I walked away absolutely awe-struck by Jodie's performance, but also by the text of the play. I'm still not entirely sure I can put into words what I experienced, but it was without a doubt one of the best performances by an actor that I have seen in my many years of seeing productions on Broadway.
The rain scene in particular hit me in the gut. Something about the way she controlled her face and her movements when the water started pouring down, followed by the re-enactment of her thought process in the cab, will stick with me for the rest of my life I think.

I saw this Tuesday and I was blown away by Comer's performance, especially in the last 20 minutes.
But to be frank, the script didn't work as well for me. And while others have praised the music, it didn't work for me either (and often drowned out Comer), even though I was sitting relatively close.
Maybe I was too hyped for the show after everything I heard about it?
Extended through July 2, tickets on sale now.

YAY! I am so excited this is extending! I did not think it would, but wow! More people will now have the opportunity to see one of the best performances on Broadway this season!
FYI, the $22 ($31 with fees) tickets for those new dates are going FAST
For anyone who's seen the show, could you answer a question about the content?
Does she act out any of the assault, or does she just recount it verbally?

I would say:
It's not a graphic re-enactment, but yes she does recount the assault with some motions, especially involving her hand placement simulating her assailant's hand placement, and her movements during that moment are reminiscent of what a victim of an assault of this nature would experience.
I personally found this moment of the show relatively brief, for what it's worth, especially compared to her processing it afterwards and throughout the rest of the play.
Thank you, that is really helpful!! I'm hoping to get a ticket soon and just wanted to make sure I was fully prepared.
Jodie Comer is giving a powerhouse performance for the ages. What she is doing on ha stage isn't even human. I thought the script was great and am not sure what some found to be problematic about it. This is such a powerful and haunting piece of theatre. You could hear a pin drop throughout the 100 minute run time, and I don't think there was a dry eye at the end. RUN to see this.

My daughter and I caught the matinee yesterday. We both loved it! I completely agree with you bwayphreak. Jodie Comer gives a tour de force performance. The audience remained completely quiet from start to finish. Afterwards, we both confessed we wanted to applaud or cheer near the end when she is discussing the legal system, but of course we didn't. Like a few others have mentioned, we found certain music and light cues distracting and unnecessary. The rain effect is pretty amazing.
When I initially watched the London taping I thought the play itself was weak. But the second time around, and perhaps because it was live, I liked the dialogue much better. It made more sense to me. All in all a great piece of theater.
Anybody rush today? Trying tomorrow and figuring out when we have to be there!

Caught the matinee today and sweet Jesus what a performance. The woman is basically doing a nearly 2 hr monologue and that alone deserves applause. The play builds throughout and then explodes at just the right time. It is raw, thought provoking, sad, and a conversation that needs to be had right now.
it says it’s 100 minutes and it started a few minutes late but I wasn’t on the street till 4 so I feel it runs a bit longer than what is advertised
Comer was on CBS SUNDAY MORNING this past weekend. I knew nothing of her or the play. What a humble, impressive interview she gave. And the scenes from the show were incredible - makes me want to see this if I do get to NYC before it closes. I do hope they extend through the summer!!

I am guessing there is no chance it extends right? Given the website says must end July 2. I won't be back to NYC till August and I just missed it when it opened. Would liked to have seen it.

It did already extend, this is probably the furthest it can go, and, even if they could squeeze out another week or so, there's a 0% chance it goes until August. The Shark is Broken starts previews at that theatre on July 25. It's already a VERY tight turnaround.

That's what I figured. Thanks for the info
Just saw online that Jodie walked off the stage five mins into the show, saying she can’t breathe in this air.

Yes, about 5 minutes in. They just announced understudy is going in and they are going to do their best. A large number of people exited at the announcement. Stay safe everyone.
I'd hate to see this, but the poor air quality in the Tri-State area could result in some anemic grosses this coming Tuesday.

Twitter" I know the Golden theater is an old building but hopefully they can install stronger air filters or that would not matter?
I mean, apparently all the theaters installed better ventilation/air purifying systems for Covid so I can't imagine them doing anything more at the moment.
Most theatres essentially have the front doors propped open when the audience is entering. I’m sure the interior air was affected.
But if Jody can’t breath, how can the standby? I assume she won’t be going on tonight either then. Just awful for actors performing in these conditions.
