I saw this last year in London and again this weekend and it was and remains one of the most electrifying productions I’ve ever witnessed. It did seem to me that Nicole has gotten slightly broader and campier or do I just not remember her performance in London accurately. Either way, I’d love to see her triumph on Tony night.

I happen to know Chernjam a little bit outside of BWWand I assure you he's not putting down the original. It's his favorite musical for a reason. I think he's just emphasizing how astounding this revival is."
Don't mind the criticism Mellony (and thanks for the support kdogg! always good to see you on here)
I really didn't mean this to be a diss upon the original, but can see how it might be interpreted that way. From the first time I listened to the World Premiere Recording, I have been absolutely hooked to this score. (That only happened one other time, with Aspects of Love, seeing it live on Broadway, completely cold/ unfamiliar with the score or anything (other than a 30-second clip of Love Changes Everything).
For Sunset though, I followed every announcement and only being in college when it first came out in the early infancy of the internet, had to rely on forums and theatre sites for any info. The thought of flying to London or LA was impossible at the time. So I had to simply consume that WPR until it finally arrived in NY. That production was jaw dropping with scenery, costumes and of course Glenn Close giving this amazing performance.
I guess why I find myself gushing about this revival is that something that I've been border-line obsessed with for 30 + years, I could never imagine it feeling so completely new to me. Seeing it live, that 2 and half hours simply evaporated in a tour-de-force performance that even though I knew what was coming next (to the lyric) at the same time I was at the edge of my seat.
It appears that Nicole has added a vacation or another engagement in January. A friend bought tickets last night for January 10th (literally last night) and tonight he got a notice of a casting change. Looking at Seat Geek, she now appears to be out from January 8th thru the 12th. No one is listed as the cover so I don't know if it will be Mandy, the new standby, and understudy, or a combination of the three.
This is the most first world problem to ever first world problem, but I've been on an understudy streak with this show, catching all first performances of every understudy to go on -- Nicole is taking a week off January 7-12, 2025 and it seems like the standby and understudy will get a chance to finally go on for Norma... and I'll be away. I booked an international trip that leaves January 6th. 😭

Caroline Bowman is currently scheduled to make her standby Norma Desmond debut on January 12, 2025. Debut date subject to change as the full coverage schedule isn't published
"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022)
"Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009)
"Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

She has a couple more dates circled on her IG.

Nicole is taking the week off starting the 7th, and Bowman is only covering for her on the 12th? Does that mean Mandy will be doing the rest of that week, and if so, why?

Someone said Mandy is given the opportunity to go on for Nicole before they ask Bowman.
Tom Francis was back in when i saw the show on Sat night.
Question: On most Wednesdays, this show starts at 8:00, and Hell's kitchen starts at 7:00pm. Do they have to speed up the intermission time on those days? Hell's kitchen will end right at around 9:40 pm or so, and Tom would run the risk of having to sidestep a lot of people in Shubert Alley.

I believe Donna Murphy did Bette's vacation week in DOLLY, so there's some sort of precedent. Happy that Mandy will get a full week, and thrilled that we will get at least one confirmed performance from Caroline before she leaves for SMASH!

I predict that you will hate it with a burning passion.

I love the film and loved this production. I knew and accepted the strengths and weaknesses of the musical going in and had one of those rare theatrical experiences.
