I saw this last year in London and again this weekend and it was and remains one of the most electrifying productions I’ve ever witnessed. It did seem to me that Nicole has gotten slightly broader and campier or do I just not remember her performance in London accurately. Either way, I’d love to see her triumph on Tony night.

I happen to know Chernjam a little bit outside of BWWand I assure you he's not putting down the original. It's his favorite musical for a reason. I think he's just emphasizing how astounding this revival is."
Don't mind the criticism Mellony (and thanks for the support kdogg! always good to see you on here)
I really didn't mean this to be a diss upon the original, but can see how it might be interpreted that way. From the first time I listened to the World Premiere Recording, I have been absolutely hooked to this score. (That only happened one other time, with Aspects of Love, seeing it live on Broadway, completely cold/ unfamiliar with the score or anything (other than a 30-second clip of Love Changes Everything).
For Sunset though, I followed every announcement and only being in college when it first came out in the early infancy of the internet, had to rely on forums and theatre sites for any info. The thought of flying to London or LA was impossible at the time. So I had to simply consume that WPR until it finally arrived in NY. That production was jaw dropping with scenery, costumes and of course Glenn Close giving this amazing performance.
I guess why I find myself gushing about this revival is that something that I've been border-line obsessed with for 30 + years, I could never imagine it feeling so completely new to me. Seeing it live, that 2 and half hours simply evaporated in a tour-de-force performance that even though I knew what was coming next (to the lyric) at the same time I was at the edge of my seat.
